MLB DFS Picks Today: Spotlight Pitchers and Top Stacks | Wednesday, April 13

Yahoo Stack of the Day: Los Angeles Dodgers at RHP Chris Paddack — 4.9 implied runs

Chris Paddack is going to feel like he is seeing ghosts with his start today against the Dodgers. The 26-year-old righty is making his Minnesota debut after spending three seasons in the National League West and facing Los Angeles several times, including in his final start last year. Paddack has never been able to capitalize on the early strikeout upside he flashed as a rookie, and it seems that the book is out on him.

The Dodgers have added Freddie Freeman to an already formidable lineup, and their offense is stacked at every position as well as boasting a loaded bench. Freeman, Trea Turner, Mookie Betts and Max Muncy are the core four to target at the top of the order. Will Smith is an excellent catcher option if he is behind the dish today, and Justin Turner and Chris Taylor are a devastating duo anchoring the latter half of the lineup. This is an early game, so there is a decent chance a veteran or two will get a rest day, so be on the lookout for any bench players getting a spot start at a discounted salary.

New York Yankees vs. RHP Jose Berrios — 4.8 implied runs

In his first start of the season on Friday, Jose Berrios was an unmitigated disaster, lasting only 34 pitches and recording just one out against Texas. Four of the five batters who reached base scored, which left manager Charlie Montoyo no choice but to give Berrios a quick hook.

The Yankees are currently healthy and boast one of the most power-laden lineups in the league. While Berrios is a strikeout artist, his main Achilles heel is lefties with power. That makes Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo stand out, as they can rack up the fantasy points with just one swing of the bat. Switch-hitting Aaron Hicks should also be in the lineup, and he is looking like a steal at today’s salary across the board. Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge are both available, which is something that we did not see a lot of last year; they are top options in all formats. Newcomer Josh Donaldson has seen hesitant at the plate, but if he is near the top of the order, he is all but assured of getting five plate appearances. D.J. LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres and whoever is behind the plate can be used to round out full stacks in this enticing matchup.

Spotlight Pitchers

Top MLB DFS Picks Target: RHP Corbin Burnes at Baltimore Orioles — 3.5 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $53 | FanDuel $10,400 | DraftKings $9,600

While the Orioles may be wishing for weather to help them avoid Corbin Burnes today, things are looking pleasant in Baltimore. This is a cherry matchup for the reigning National League Cy Young winner, as Baltimore has stumbled out of the gate, allowing four of their five games and managing to plate only 10 runs. Burnes was mediocre during his Opening Day start against the Cubs, but he did complete five innings and threw 83 pitches. Today he should see closer to 90 pitches against a far inferior offense.

Wild Card MLB DFS Picks Target: LHP Shane McClanahan vs. Oakland Athletics — 3.3 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $44 | FanDuel $6,500 | DraftKings $8,800

Any hurler taking the mound for Tampa Bay is likely to land in the wild-card bucket for MLB DFS purposes. The Rays are notorious for limiting even their best pitchers from going through the lineup a third time in any start, and of course this is the organization that invented the “opener” strategy. That said, two times through the Oakland lineup should have Shane McClanahan positioned to close the book on the fifth inning and also be in line for the win if his team has the lead when he hits the showers. In his first start, the 24-year-old lefty was solid, blanking the Orioles across 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts and only two walks on an economical 68 pitches. The Athletics have rolled up 21 runs over the last two games of this series, though that was against the back end of the Tampa rotation.

Final MLB DFS Thoughts for the Wednesday, April 13 Fantasy Baseball Slate

There are quite a few afternoon games today, which, combined with most teams playing yesterday, could lead to some late scratches. Thursday brings a host of new matchups as the teams begin the journeys to new cities for their weekend series. There is some weather concern in Chicago, with the White Sox – Mariners matchup at risk with heavy precipitation in the forecast. Detroit, St. Louis and Cincinnati also have weather concerns, so be sure to keep an eye on forecasts leading up to first pitch.
