Welcome to the MLB DFS Roses of the Day,
My name is Chris Randone and if you ever watched The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, then you know getting a rose means everything. It symbolized the guy or girl giving them out has an interest in you. When you get a rose, it means you survive to keep fighting for love.
Well in daily fantasy sports it’s no different. We go through a list of players deciding who will survive and make the cut into our lineups. These players fight to help us win. A true definition of love. I’ve learned being on the show that you never give out roses just for fun, there has to be a meaning behind it. We’ll take that same approach here. Tonight’s rose ceremony I’ll give my Top Stack, Top Pitcher, Surprise Pitcher, & Surprise Stack of this main slate.
And make sure to check out Awesemo’s MLB rankings and projections. Not a member? Sign up HERE.
Top Stack
Toronto Blue Jays, will you accept this rose?
The Blue Jays own the second highest run implied total (5.7) tonight. Toronto will face David Hess in Camden yards where the Baltimore righty has been horrible. Hess has been hit hard on the year and is no stranger to giving up home runs. The Orioles pitcher has given up 20 home runs on the season with 17 of those coming against the right side of the plate. Toronto will have five righties in the lineup who own over a 40% hard hit rate. Hess himself owns a 48.5 hard hit percentage on the season and a .394 xwOBA. Toronto’s bats are cheap which will make them very chalky but they do provide salary relief if you’re looking for high priced pitchers such as Justin Verlander.
Top Stack
Minnesota Twins, will you accept this rose?
The Twins will face Seattle southpaw Tommy Milone tonight and hold the highest run implied total (5.8). Minnesota owns the highest wOBA (.373) and wRC+ (134) in the league. Since 2018, Milone has surrendered a .392 wOBA ranking in the bottom percentile of the league. Minnesota have six batters in the lineup with a 43 percent hard hit or higher, including Nelson Cruz and C.J. Cron who both rank tops in the league with a .424 and .404 ISO respectively. Minnesota has been giving pitchers a hard time this season as they rank 4th best in the league with a 19 percent strikeout rate. If Milone struggles with his command and consistency, Minnesota can live up to their slate high run implied total.
Surprise Stack
Seattle Mariners, will you accept this rose?
The Mariners will face Twins ace Jose Berrios in Minnesota tonight. Seattle ranks as the number two hitting team in baseball against right-handed pitching on the road this season. Seattle currently ranks top three in ISO (.255), wOBA (.356), home runs (61), Runs (160), wRC+ (125), wRC (165) , and wRAA (34.4) against righties on the road this season. Jose Berrios is scary good but the Mariners are just too good against righties for me to ignore them and they proved that earlier this year versus Berrios where Seattle managed four runs on eight hits in just under five innings versus the Twins ace. Seattle holds a 4.2 run implied total and Awesemo’s ownership have the Mariners projected to be drastically low owned. Seattle is considered an upside contrarian play in tournament formats.
