Welcome to MLB DFS Roses of the Day!
My name is Chris Randone and If you ever watched The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, then you know getting a rose means everything. It symbolized the guy or girl giving them out has an interest in you. Getting a rose means you survive to keep fighting for love. Well in daily fantasy sports it’s no different. We go through a list of players deciding who will survive and make the cut into our lineups. These players fight to help us win. A true definition of love. I’ve learned being on the show that you never give out roses just for fun, there has to be a meaning behind it. We’ll take that same approach here. Tonight’s rose ceremony I’ll give my Top Stack and Top Pitcher on this short three game main slate.
Top Stack
Seattle Mariners, will you accept this rose?
Tonight’s main slate has the Seattle Mariners owning the third highest run implied total (4.7). Seattle will take on Houston Astros young pitcher Corbin Martin. The young Houston prospect made an impressive debut against the Rangers but since has struggled. Martin has failed to get past the 4th inning in his last 3 starts. Corbin now carries a 5.51 ERA and has given up five home runs in 33 at-bats against right-handed hitters this season. The Mariners currently rank second in the league with 81 home runs against right-handed pitchers. One factor in this matchup will be Corbin Martin’s 4-Seam fastball which could present a big night for Seattle. Corbin Martin throws the 4-Seam fastball 64.1% of the time which differs drastically from his second most thrown pitch being his curveball (thrown 16.1%). Seattle has seven batters with over a .400 wOBA this year against the 4-Seam fastball:
Haniger .449 wOBA, 8 Home runs
Beckham .447 wOBA. 5 Home runs
Murphy .440 wOBA, 1 Home run
Navarez .440 wOBA, 4 Home runs
Vogelbach .430 wOBA, 7 Home runs
Healy .424 wOBA, 3 Home runs
Seager .403 wOBA
Seattle’s lineup presents power as they rank third in MLB with a .211 ISO. There will be more attention on Houston’s bats compared to the Mariners but guys like Navarez, Beckham, and Haniger could be lower owned than expected.
Top Pitcher
Aaron Nola, will you accept this rose?
Aaron Nola is the most expensive pitcher on tonight’s slate and with great reason. The Philadelphia Phillies ace had a phenomenal month of May. Nola posted four wins while giving up only 10 earned runs in six starts while averaging seven strikeouts per game. Aaron will look to continue this momentum in San Diego tonight where the Padres are ranked the team in baseball striking out 27.3% of the time against right-handed pitchers. Nola will get a ballpark upgrade and face a Padres team who ranks bottom five in AVG (.216), wRC(72), wRC+(73), and wOBA (.275).
