MLB DFS Roses of The Day! FanDuel and DraftKings – Monday 5/13

The Bachelor’s Chris Randone Draftkings and Fanduel MLB DFS Roses of the Day

Welcome to Roses of the Day!

My name is Chris Randone and If you ever watched The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, then you know getting a rose means everything. It symbolized the guy or girl giving them out likes you. Getting a rose means you survive to keep fighting for love. Well in daily fantasy sports it’s no different. We go through a list of players deciding who will survive and make the cut into our lineups. These players fight to help us win. A true definition of love. I’ve learned being on the show that you never give out roses just for fun, there has to be a meaning behind it. We’ll take that same approach here. Tonight’s rose ceremony I’ll be given my Top Stack, Top Pitcher, Surprise Play, Surprise Stack this main slate.

Top Stack/Surprise Stack:

Phillies, will you accept this rose?

Although their implied run total (4.8) doesn’t seem appealing, the Phillies crush RHP at home. They’ll face young right-hander Freddy Peralta who in 5 games started this year has given up 20 ER and 7 bombs. The Phillies currently rank top 10 in HR (26), ISO (.216), wOBA (.337), and wRC+ ( (5.8) going into tonight’s slate. Rhys Hoskins is murdering RHP at home. Over 63 AB this season, Hoskins has a (.510) ISO and (.510) wOBA while crushing 7 HRs and walking over 20% of the time. Hoskins is currently projected at 7.0% ownership. Philadelphia as a team will be low owned collectively.

Why Philadelphia is considered a surprise stack:

  • Minnesota, Cleveland, Houston have higher implied run totals while MINN and CLE have better matchups
  • Prices for Philadelphia make it a bit more difficult to construct lineups
  • Clev and Minn bats are cheaper, making it easier to roster top SP like Nola or Ray
  • People gravitate to chalk
    • I say this because of the FOMO (fear of missing out). Many instances people will roster the chalk because they fear it’ll go off and they miss out (especially in single entry tournaments)

Top Pitcher:

Robbie Ray, will you accept this rose?

A perfect formula for a pitcher is when you get an ace at home against a team who struggles on the road. Robbie Ray has this formula set up for him tonight. In 8 games this year, Ray has 55 strikeouts and producing a (41.5 K%) at home. He’ll face a Pittsburgh Pirates team who in 2nd in strikeouts (75 Ks) vs LHP on the road. Pirates own the worst ISO (.093) in the league against LHP on the road this season. Pittsburgh has also achieved ranking in the bottom 4 in both wOBA (.261) and wRC+ (58). Ray’s price is a bargain considering his upside which is why he’ll be either the highest or second highest owned on this main slate.

Surprise Play:

Matt Chapman, will you accept this rose?

Since mid 2018, Chapman has been crushing on the offensive end. He’s crushed a .309/.371/.591 line while averaging a HR every 17 at-bats. In 41 ABs vs LHP this season, Chapman has a .531 ISO (Top 10 in the league) and 5 HRs (1st in the league).  He’ll face LHP Yusei Kikuchi tonight in Safeco Field. Kikichui hasn’t been bad to kick off his 2019 campaign. He has given up some power from the right side (5 HRs) and they’ve all come under the lights. Chapman is projected to have very little ownership. In fact, I believe he’ll go under for a few reasons:

  • Not a favorable ballpark he’s playing in
  • In 55 ABs at Safeco Chapman is batting .164 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs
  • Kikichui is not a bad pitcher
  • Jose Ramirez is cheaper priced and presents a more favorable matchup pitcher wise and ballpark wise (exposure will gravitate severly to Ramirez because of this)
