Main Slate Spotlight
Trevor Bauer: LAD at HOU — DraftKings $10,200; FanDuel $11,500
The boos will be raucous at Minute Maid Park when Bauer takes the mound, averaging 28.3 DraftKings and 47.5 FanDuel points with a 36.2% strikeout rate in 10 starts. Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool gives Bauer a 21.9% chance of reaching top-two pitcher accolades on DraftKings and a 9.9% chance of being the top pitcher on FanDuel. Awesemo’s MLB DFS projections for Bauer combine with a lofty price tag to project him for a 6.7% chance of being a top-two value on DraftKings and a 1.2% chance of being the top value on FanDuel. MLB daily fantasy ownership projections of 21.3% on DraftKings and 5.9% on FanDuel make Bauer the lesser owned of the two premium pitchers with an undeniable fantasy ceiling.
Due to face six righties and three left-handed hitters from Houston, Bauer is striking out right-handed hitters at a 39% rate with an 0.76 WHIP. Yordan Alvarez (fourth) has a .241 ISO against right-handed pitchers, and Bauer’s 1.41 HR/9 against left-handed hitters is a concern. Houston has a .256 batting average, 18.7% strikeout rate and 110 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this year. The Astros present a very tall task, but Bauer’s ceiling makes him a top pitching option for Wednesday.

Marcus Stroman: NYM vs. COL — DraftKings $9,200; FanDuel $8,500
Stroman starts against the Rockies at home, averaging 16.88 DraftKings and 30.66 FanDuel points with a 20.3% strikeout rate in 10 starts. Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool gives Stroman a 15% chance of being a top-two pitcher on DraftKings and a 6.7% chance becoming the top pitcher on FanDuel. Favorable MLB DFS projections in tandem with a decent salary cost give Stroman a 6.9% chance of being a top-two value on DraftKings and a 4.4% chance of being the top value pitcher on FanDuel. Daily fantasy baseball ownership projections of 24.8% on DraftKings and 17.2% on FanDuel suggest that Stroman is flying toward the middle of the pack given his slightly priced-up tag with lesser strikeout upside.
Colorado has five righties and four left-handed hitters, and Stroman has a 19.6% strikeout rate and a 1.18 WHIP against righties. Ryan McMahon (fifth) has a .277 ISO and 107 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season, but Stroman’s 0.66 HR/9 against lefty hitters is solid. Colorado has a .225 batting average, 24.1% strikeout rate and 67 wRC+ against righty pitchers this season. While he’s a slight spend up on DraftKings, Stroman’s ability to go deep into games is proven.

German Marquez: COL at NYM — DraftKings $6,700; FanDuel $8,800
Marquez is on the other side of the Citi Field matchup, averaging 13.8 DraftKings and 27.9 FanDuel points with a 23.9% strikeout rate in nine starts. Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool projects Marquez with a 14% chance to become a top-two pitcher on DraftKings and a 7% chance of being the top pitcher on FanDuel. Provided his drastic discount on DraftKings, he has a 23.3% chance to be a top-two value, where a more moderate cost lends to a projected 4.1% chance of being the top value pitcher on FanDuel. MLB daily fantasy ownership projections insinuate that Marquez’s discount will make him popular on DraftKings, while he remains among the middling herd on FanDuel.
Marquez will face five righties, two lefties and two switch-hitters from the Mets, and he has a 29% strikeout rate against right-handed hitters this season. The Mets hitting has been dreadful, though Jonathan Villar (first) has been heating up as of late with a 110 wRC+ against righty pitchers. New York has a .226 batting average, 23.3% strikeout rate and 85 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, among the league’s lowest production at the plate. Marquez is certain to be chalkier on DraftKings at a massive discount, but he is an intriguing option at a moderate price tag on FanDuel.
