EARLY SLATE
New York Mets vs RHP Tyler Mahle – 4.3 implied runs
Since the beginning of last season, RHP Tyler Mahle has squared off against 320 right-handed hitters with a very solid .304 wOBA, .131 ISO, 22.5 K% and 5.0 BB% with a nice and save 49.6 GB% which is fantastic when we consider his home field is Great American Ballpark. Against lefties, it is an entirely different story with a .421 wOBA, .269 ISO, 14.5 BB% with just 33.7 GB% though the 21.5 K% is nice, but not stemming the tide.
This is a new look Metropolitans squad that has augmented the top of their lineup and if they roll with Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano, Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo we are going to be in business!
Tampa Bay Rays at LHP Danny Duffy – 4.7 implied runs
The Rays have a fierce group of “no-name” hitters, particularly from the right side of the plate with the unsung quarter of Tommy Pham, Avisail Garcia, Yandy Diaz and Mike Zunino. All of these guys have above average power against southpaws and while LHP Danny Duffy has had his moments in the DFS world with his 8.3 K/9 over the last three seasons, he is no stranger to home runs which can be his downfall.
MAIN SLATE
Since this is just a two-game “main” slate, let’s focus on a couple hitters who can help us out.
Rafael Devers and Mitch Moreland at RHP Lucas Giolito – while this duo is not going to fly under the radar, they there is a decent chance they are adjacent to each other in the lineup and we know that RHP Lucas Giolito has disappointed more often than he has succeeded in The Show since being acquired by the ChiSox. Against the last 400ish batters from the left and right sides of the plate he ia allowing a .194 ISO and a .186 ISO respectively which could yield some fantasy goodness.
Teoscar Hernandez and Randal Grichuk at LHP Tyler Skaggs – there is not much to be excited about when the Blue Jays are facing a lefty, but Hernandez and Grichuk do have extra-base hit upside and while most gamers will flock to rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr, stick with the savvy veterans in this matchup for some differentiation (and yes, I do know that this is just the second full season for Hernandez, but he did get a lot of seasoning last year).
Tim Anderson and James McCann vs LHP David Price – depending on your site of choice, Anderson may be priced like he is a member of the Red Sox and not the Black Sox but he is outstanding in righty/lefty matchups. James McCann did catch the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader and he has not had a day off since Saturday, but if he is in the lineup, he has a long track record against southpaws and can fill out that pesky backstop requirement.
