MAIN SLATE
Washington Nationals at TBD – TBD implied runs
While the Metropolitans have not yet announced a starter officially it will likely be either RHP Andrew “Drew” Gagnon or RHP Wilmer Font and potentially could be both. Gagnon has been pitching out of the bullpen and while he did begin the season with AAA Syracuse with two starts and had a third on April 23rd where he went 97 pitches, he has not thrown more than 26 in an appearance since then so he would probably be in the mix for around 60-65 pitches. Font has been a mess since being acquired by New York and he has allowed seven runs, eleven baserunners, two home runs with just three strikeouts in his two appearances totaling 6.1 innings.
With the return of Trea Turner the Nationals have a solid top half of the order who are all good against right-handed pitching with Adam Eaton bringing some speed and Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto supplying the power.
EVENING SLATE
Texas Rangers vs RHP Mike Leake – 6.3 implied runs
It seems that we are getting more and more implied team run totals cresting over six, which is an indication of the increased home runs in the league and it doesn’t hurt that the temperature will be in the upper-80s at first pitch.
This portends to be a tough matchup for RHP Mike Leake as he continues to allow an above average hard hit rate to both lefties and righties and the Rangers lineup is a formidable one that is loaded with power. Joey Gallo and Shin-Soo Choo are of course the two preferred options, but we can look to fellow lefties Nomar Mazara, Roughned Odor and Ronald Guzman along with the hot hitting righty Hunter Pence who is locked in and batting cleanup.
LATE SLATE
Atlanta Braves at LHP Andrew Suarez – 4.1 implied runs
This will be the first appearance with the big club this season for LHP Andrew Suarez who has been starting for the Sacramento River Cats making half a dozen starts averaging 74 pitches per outing with an unsightly 6.33 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over 27.0 innings with just 21 strikeouts. Last season he made 29 starts for the Giants going 160.1 innings with a 4.49 ERA and a 1.297 WHIP with a league average 7.3 K/9 with 14 starts at home and 15 on the road.
While this is not the most offense friendly park, there are just three games on this late slate to work with and we know that Freddie Freeman is elite against lefties and righties, Ronald Acuna should be at the top of the order and of course noted lefty-masher Josh Donaldson should be batting in the heart-of-the-order with Johan Camargo and Dansby Swanson potentially getting a boost in the order and of course Ozzie Albies seems to be a DFS afterthought after being relegated to the back of the lineup. While I would only expect to get a limited number of three-man stacks from this squad on the main slate, they are all very much in play on the late slate and we can do some mixing and matching to create some differentiation for ourselves (aka perhaps a wrap-around stack).
