Main Slate

Cleveland Indians at RHP Ryan Carpenter – 6.1 implied runs

On the season with six starts and 29.2 innings under his belt, LHP Ryan Carpenter has an abysmal 7.89 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP, nine home runs allowed and just 19 strikeouts for a 5.76 K/9 rate and we really don’t have to dig into the advanced metrics as the 5.34 xFIP pretty much confirms this level of crappiness.

We should see rookie Jordan Luplow back in action after he played sparingly over the last week with a couple games off and with Cleveland facing some right-handed hurlers.  He has been solid this season with all eight of his homeruns coming off southpaws in 98 at bats.  He is not going to be available at a discount on Friday with his Draftkings – $4,200, Yahoo! – $19 though that should keep his popularity suppressed along with all thirty teams in action.  Over on FanDuel he is $3,000 and should be a staple in lineups there.

In addition to Luplow we’re focusing on Francisco Lindor, Carlos Santana and Jose Ramirez with, Roberto Perez on sites where a catcher is required. He will be far from popular at his current price points and a great differentiation play.

Evening Slate

Houston Astros vs RHP Aaron Sanchez – 5.0 implied runs

The combination of the key players (George Springer, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Aledmys Diaz) being on the shelf, the lack of household names and elevated price points should keep the admiration for the Astros in check on Friday night, even on the 8 o’clock evening slate.  While more gamers are apt to focus on the Twins, I think RHP Brad Keller who does allow a lot of balls in play, really does not allow much power having given up just 11 homeruns in 226.1 career innings.

RHP Aaron Sanchez on the other hand can be had by lefties allowing a .358 wOBA and a .163 ISO over his last 414 righty/lefty matchups and he also has a combined 12.3 BB% since the beginning of last season and over the last three seasons he has a 1.58 WHIP which indicates just how many baserunners he allows.

Our first targets should be Alex Bregman and Michael Brantley which is no surprise, but do not be shy about paying up for Robinson Chirinos where catchers are required and both Tyler White and Tony Kemp have some upside in this matchup.

Late Slate

Milwaukee Brewers at LHP Drew Smyly – 4.4 implied runs

This will be the most contrarian of contrarian stacks on the full-slate and it certainly does seem like a bit of a quicksand trap with the 4.6 implied run total potentially making some gamers forget about what a great pitching park this is (despite the recent warm weather) and temperatures will be back in the mid-50s at first pitch which is not exactly a boon for the batters.

That said, the slumping Jesus Aguilar is pretty much free on DraftKings $3,200, FanDuel $2,400 and Yahoo! $9, and we know that Hernan Perez is a solid play in righty/lefty matchups. For the last of our righties we can consider Ryan Braun, Lorenzo Cain and of course switch-hitting Yasmani Grandal who is much improved against southpaws.  Lefties Christian Yelich and Mike Moustakas can handle themselves against anyone so they remain core plays regardless of the pitcher.
