Main Slate
Washington Nationals at RHP Jake Arrieta – 5.3 implied runs
This will be the third time that RHP Jake Arrieta has faced the Nationals and he is not a particularly scary opponent at this point with his 4.67 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and his mediocre 7.1 K/9 rate. In his two tilts with the Nats he has gone for an even dozen innings with only nine baserunners, ten punchouts and just two home runs allowed for a 2.25 ERA and 0.75 WHIP… but this is a park upgrade for Washington, with good weather and we know where their production will likely be concentrated with Anthony Rendon, Juan Soto, Matt Adams and Trea Turner.
Early Afternoon Slate
San Francisco Giants at RHP Jhoulys Chacin – 4.4 implied runs
This is a differentiation recommendation and is going to be contingent with getting some lefties in the lineup for the Giants. Randomly Alex Dickerson who was acquired from the Friars when he was designated for assignment (aka removed from the 40 man roster) for essentially a player to be named later, but the change of scenery has been good for him as he has four dingers and 15 RBI through 17 games with San Francisco. He was out on Saturday with back spasms, but hopefully he will be in the lineup along with Brandon Belt, Mike Yastrzemski and then if you want a full stack Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik are meh, but have their moments when least expected…
Not to bury the lede, but RHP Jhoulys Chacin struggles against opposite-handed hitters and this is a mega-park upgrade for San Fran. Over his last 575 righty/lefty matchups, Chacin has allowed a .338 wOBA, a .171 ISO with a 11.3 BB% and a poor 14.4 K% so we can find some savings here.
Afternoon Slate
Coors Field Extravaganza – 14.2 implied run total
It is going to be in the upper-80s at first pitch with a 6-9mph breeze nicely heading out towards center field and sadly this game is not on the DraftKings or FanDuel “main” slate and somehow FantasyDraft is including the HOU at TEX game starting at 3:05pm ET but couldn’t wait another five minutes for the Coors Field Extravaganza. So sub-slates and of course Yahoo Fantasy will be our huckleberry for this matchup. To be fair, FanDuel has an “all-day” slate, but the largest prize pool is just $500 and of course ticket contests.
RHP Tyler Mahle is a tale of two sides of the plate since the beginning of last season he has (fun with numbers) faced 448 lefties and 448 righties. Lefties have his number with a .401 wOBA, a .270 ISO and a 12.3 BB% with a 21.7 K% (solid) and same-handed hitters have a .295 wOBA, .133 ISO, 25.0 K% and a 51 BB% with a healthy 49.8 GB%.
The Rockies have lots of lefties so look to Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl, Daniel Murphy, Ramiel Tapia and Ryan McMahon and of course Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story have .220 ISOs in in righty/righty matchups (aka similar analysis as we had on Saturday against RHP Tanner Roark).
As for the Reds, they will be facing RHP Antonio Senzatela who has a 4.84 xFIP, 14.9 K% and a 9.1 BB% over his last 800 combined hitters faced since the beginning of the 2018 season with a .160 ISO to lefties and a .184 ISO to righties.
Yasiel Puig, Eugenio Suarez, Jesse Winker and Joey Votto are the clear cut top-shelf plays and we can feather in pretty much anyone around them as needed for a “full-stack” where this game is available.
Late Slate
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs LHP Yusei Kikuchi – 5.9 implied runs
Let’s make it a clean sweep of Halos being recommended as a stack in this series with the Mariners, who have allowed the most runs in the league this season in a tight race with the woeful Baltimore Orioles and surprisingly the Colorado Rockies as a distant third nearly 70 runs behind these squads.
LHP Yusei Kikuchi has been less than impressive as a starter and has allowed the 15th most home runs in the league this season with 19 across his 19 starts spanning 98.1 innings with an equally awful .358 wOBA / .204 ISO to righties and a .348 wOBA / .218 ISO to lefties with a combined 16.9 K%.
Back unto the breach once more with Mike Trout, Justin Upton, Shohei Ohtani, Albert Pujols as the obvious four and then we can branch out as we see fit if we want a full-stack with Andrelton Simmons, David Fletcher, Kole Calhoun and whomever is playing in second base and catcher.
Just for fun, last time the Angels saw Yusei Kikuchi they had back-to-back-to-back home runs with La Stella (currently out with a leg fracture), Trout and Ohtani….
