Main Slate
New York Mets vs RHP Merrill Kelly – 5.0 implied runs
This year has been a mixed bag for RHP Merrill Kelly who has found himself in this series at least a dozen times this season. At this point you all know the back story. He spent five seasons in the Tampa Bay organization never topping AAA-Durham and then five more seasons in the Korean League. That brings us to present day with a 30-year old rookie pitcher.
Lefties have gotten to Kelly with a ..348 wOBA / .179 ISO and righties have at least been there with power with a .306 wOBA / .207 ISO. Pete Alonso and Michael Conforto are the first pair to target. We can than round things out with Jeff McNeil, J.D. Davis and even Robinson Cano for some differentiation. Wilson Ramos is fine on sites that require us to play a catcher.
Philadelphia Phillies vs RHP Mike Foultynewicz – 4.6 implied runs
While it isn’t a beefy total and the Phillies offense has underperformed this season, RHP Mike Foltynewicz has been a disaster. He was banished to the minors for a stint to “work things out” which did not help much at all. He is allowing a .350 wOBA to both sides of the plate with a .258 ISO to lefties and a .219 ISO to righties.
Bryce Harper and Corey Dickerson are the obvious options and then we can round things out with Rhys Hoskins, Mikael Franco and Scott Kingery.
Late Slate
Chicago Cubs at RHP Cal Quantrill – 4.4 implied runs
Whoa Nelly! RHP Cal Quantrill has been absolutely hammered in his last two starts. Over 9.1 innings he has allowed SIXTEEN RUNS though only 21 base runners and just two home runs. That is a little bit unlucky, but it is not like the Cubbies are an easy team to deal with. Quantrill has handled same-handed hitters well, it is the lefties that have been trouble. Across 231 righty/lefty matchups he has ceded a .354 wOBA, 1.93 ISO, 8.7 BB% with just a 14.3 K%.
Kyle Schwarber and Anthony Rizzo are the pair to procure with priority. Then we can consider Jason Heyward who has been solid this season after being mediocre at best for a couple years. After that, my hope is that Ian Happ is in the lineup as I would prefer to pass on Ben Zobrist who has had nearly no power upside this year.
