Similar to last year I will be providing a review of one stack for the main slate as well as the viable sub-slates with at least two games on the docket. Some of these short-slate options will be good for the full-game set, others will be more contrarian and better suited for the mini-game sets.

Afternoon Slate Picks
Washington Nationals vs. RHP Tanner Roark – 5.3 implied runs
While Roark is a solid pitcher, he is not spectacular and is on the downside of his career. He spent his first six seasons in The Show with the Nationals before plying his trade in Oakland and Cincinnati last year, and this will be his Blue Jays debut. Roark allows power to lefties, but Washington is without Juan Soto. That leaves Eric Thames, Asdrubal Cabrera and Adam Eaton to carry the load.
Assuming the short slate is a go, which will depend on the Phillies and Yankees, we can also look to Trea Turner, Howie Kendrick and Starlin Castro to round out Nats stacks.
Main Slate Picks
Chicago White Sox vs. RHP Adam Plutko – 5.0 implied runs
Assuming that Cleveland goes with Plutko in one of their games on Tuesday, we want to target against him. Over the last two seasons, he has tossed 186.0 innings in MLB with most coming as a starter. In that time he has allowed 43 home runs with 1.82 HR/9 to righties and 2.27 HR/9 to opposite-handed hitters. Nearly half of his pitches end up as fly balls, which bodes well for the opposition.
The White Sox have plenty of power in the lineup both sides of the plate. The preferred order of preference, considering price, position eligibility, projected production and popularity, would be Yasmani Grandal, Eloy Jimenez, Jose Abreu, Nomar Mazara and Edwin Encarnacion. Keep in mind there is a double-header so not everyone may be in the lineup.
Milwaukee Brewers at LHP Derek Holland – 5.4 implied runs
This iteration of the Brewers can get very right-handed with the lone lefty being former MVP Christian Yelich. Ryan Braun and Yelich are the first two batsmen to target with their .270+ ISO rate against southpaws. Avisail Garcia, Manny Pina, Jedd Gyorko and Justin Smoak also possess above-average lumber.
Over his last 800-plus right-handed hitters faced, Holland has allowed a 1.85 HR/9 rate with 17% of all fly balls leaving the park. Over the last two seasons, he is approaching a double-digit walk rate, which means there should be ducks on the pond.
Evening Slate Picks
Los Angeles Dodgers at LHP Framber Valdez – 4.6 implied runs
After a torrid start wrapping up the 2018 season, Valdez came back down to earth last year. He split time between the rotation and the bullpen but was mediocre at best. With a double-digit walk rate to both sides of the plate, even his elite 63 ground ball percentage could not save him all of the time.
While he has more trouble with righties, we know the Dodger lefties can handle themselves in same-handed matchups. Mookie Betts and Justin Turner are the top priorities. Chris Taylor, Kike Hernandez and A.J. Pollock provide some discounted differentiation plays in the bottom half of the order.
Late Slate MLB DFS Picks
Oakland Athletics vs. RHP Antonio Senzatela – 5.7 implied runs
Last season Senzatela put up a career-worst 6.71 ERA. While he was bad at Coors Field with a 6.21 ERA, he was even worse on the road with a 7.29 ERA over 13 unlucky starts. Neither traditional nor advanced metrics have much positive spin to put on the putrid performance.
The Athletics may strike out a lot, but they also have light tower power. Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, Mark Canha, Khris Davis and Marcus Semien all have .175-.200+ ISOs over the last two seasons against right-handed pitching. Be sure to have some A’s in your lineups on Tuesday.
