Full-Slate Action
Greetings, Gamers! Finally the main slate start times are aligned across the sites at 7:05 p.m. EST.
Similar to last year I will be providing a review of one stack for the main slate as well as the viable sub-slates with at least two games on the docket. Some of these short-slate options will be good for the full-game set, others will be more contrarian and better suited for the mini-game sets.
Sign up for SuperDraft today using promo code “awesemo10” and it’s $10 FREE on your first deposit of $10 or more and $20 total FREE on your first deposit of $100 or more. Download in the App Store or play at superdraft.io.
Afternoon-Slate MLB DFS Picks
Chicago White Sox vs. RHP Zac Plesac – 5.3 implied runs
While he put up a decent rookie campaign with a 3.81 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 23 starts, Plesac was not treated well by the advanced metrics. With a 5.1 xFIP there could be trouble ahead for this legacy player (his uncle is Dan Plesac).
The additions of Yasmani Grandal and Edwin Encarnacion have really boosted the power potential of the White Sox. Along with Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez, they form the core building blocks of any stack. Plus, that is before we get to 2019 American League batting champion Tim Anderson (.351) and rookie prospect Luis Robert. Not to mention these teams played a doubleheader on Tuesday where the Cleveland bullpen pitched six innings. Even with the expanded roster, that will put the squad at a deficit for fresh arms.
Main-Slate MLB DFS Picks
New York Mets vs. RHP Nathan Eovaldi – 4.4 implied runs
Don’t look now, but the Mets actually have an above-average offense after several seasons of dismal results. Eovaldi has had power issues with opposite-handed hitters for years. Over his last 385 righty/lefty matchups, he has allowed a 1.92 HR/9 with a .313 ISO.
Our initial targets will be Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil, both of whom have a .240+ ISO against right-handed hurlers over the last two seasons. Robinson Cano is a discounted differentiation option on FanDuel at $2,400, and DraftKings at $3,200, as is Brandon Nimmo, who may get a chance to lead off. Then we still have Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis.
Late-Slate MLB DFS Picks
San Diego Padres at RHP Johnny Cueto – 4.6 implied runs
While Oracle Park is the best pitching park in the league, suppressing runs by 15-20%, the Giants do not have a fierce pitching staff. Cueto will be making his second start after allowing three home runs to the Dodgers on Opening Night. The 34-year-old veteran of 13 campaigns will be making just his 15th start since 2017.
Lefties have been an issue for Cueto in the latter portion of his career, but he will likely see just two in Trent Grisham and Eric Hosmer. However, Fernando Tatis Jr., Tommy Pham and, of course, Manny Machado all have well above-average power in righty/righty matchups. This will be the most popular stack on the two-game late slate, but there will be other ways we can differentiate our lineups.
