Early-Slate MLB DFS Picks
San Francisco Giants vs. RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez – 5.3 implied runs
This will be the sixth appearance for Gonzalez and the third against the Giants. During the abbreviated season he has been bouncing between the Rockies and their alternate training site. In his last appearance he went 79 pitches at home against the Dodgers, so he should be in line for a similar count on Thursday afternoon.
There is not much to say about the Rockies righty and his performance over the last two-plus seasons. In 159 righty/lefty matchups, he has allowed a 1.57 HR/9, 15.7% walk rate and a .221 ISO. Same-handed hitters have tallied a 1.67 HR/9, 8.6% walk rate and a .197 ISO in the same timeframe.
It looks like Mike Yastrzemski has a chance to return to the starting lineup after missing five games with a calf injury. If he is in the Giants lineup, then he should be in ours. Brandon Belt, Alex Dickerson and Donovan Solano are the other top targets. Evan Longoria and Wilmer Flores can be used to round out full stacks on the short slate.

Main-Slate Picks
Boston Red Sox vs. RHP Alex Cobb – 5.5 implied runs
Cobb is the perfect non-descript Orioles pitcher. This year he has a 4.77 ERA, 1.37 WHIP with eight home runs allowed in 45.1 innings. In his last 469 matchups against same-handed batsmen, he has ceded a 2.03 HR/9, low 14.7% strikeout rate with a .252 ISO. The 452 lefties that have faced him in this same timeframe have totaled a 1.48 HR/9, 16.6% strikeout rate with a .190 ISO.
This will be the third time Boston has faced Cobb this year, but it has been a month since they last saw him. Xander Bogaerts roasts righties with a .241 ISO and a 136 wRC+ over his last 1,107 plate appearances. J.D. Martinez is right there as well with a .235 ISO and a 131 wRC+ in his last 1,148 opportunities. Lefties Alex Verdugo, Rafael Devers and Jackie Bradley Jr. are fine options if you are looking for a full stack.
Late-Slate Picks
Kansas City Royals vs. RHP Michael Fulmer and LHP Tyler Alexander – 5.3 implied runs
Though it has not yet been officially announced, it looks like the Tigers are going with a righty/lefty combination of Fulmer and Alexander. Both are capable of approaching 50 pitches, but neither is intimidating in the least. Switch-hitting Adalberto Mondesi is showing signs of life and is now at the top of the order as he is getting healthier every day. In his last 10 games, he has four extra base hits and seven stolen bases. Currently he leads the league with 20, and the next closest person is Trevor Story with 14.
Jorge Soler and Salvador Perez have light-tower power against pitchers of both-handedness, and they are well placed to make some noise in this matchup. Hunter Dozier and Maikel Franco are both better against southpaws, but they are solid against righties. Finally, Whit Merrifield leading off makes for an intriguing option, particularly on DraftKings with his sky-high $5,300 price tag.
