Maycee Barber is returning from ACL surgery and taking on Alexa Grasso. I’m interested to see how Barber rebounds from such a significant injury since she has the skills to pay the bills. This is not an easy return fight for Barber, though, as Grasso possesses excellent boxing and fundamentals. Grasso puts together great boxing combinations but does have a susceptibility to getting taken down and controlled by her opponents. Barber should have the physicality edge here, and I like her chances if she implements takedowns after her combinations. Whether Barber is standing up or on the mat, she is always looking to finish her opponents. You have to love an underdog labeled “The Future.”

Philip Rowe +125

In the low-level bout of the evening, we have Philip Rowe taking on Gabe Green. Both men have question marks surrounding them; Rowe had to overcome some adversity in his Contender Series bout, and Green accepted a short-notice fight against Daniel Rodriguez. It’s hard to trust either man, but Rowe will have a seven-inch reach advantage in this striking contest. Green displayed a great chin in his debut but kept getting beaten to the punch. I think the reach of Rowe will be a problem for Green, and as long as Rowe stays defensively aware, he should be able to outwork his opponent.

Andre Ewell via Decision +225

In a striker’s delight, Chris Gutierrez faces off against Andre Ewell. Both of these gentlemen have proven to be exciting strikers in the division. Gutierrez possesses a kick-dominant style, whereas Ewell is predominately a boxer. Kickers tend to give boxers trouble more often than not since they are able to take advantage of the heavy front leg required for a boxing style. Ewell is a southpaw, which will force Gutierrez to switch stances if he wants to land outside low kicks, but he will have to be careful. Ewell will have an eight-inch reach advantage in this contest and has shown the ability to shoot beautiful straight punches when his opponents leg kick. Fighters tend to struggle against southpaws in general, never mind a southpaw with an eight-inch reach advantage. I think this will be a back-and-forth contest, but I am favoring the length and volume of Ewell.
