MMA DFS Fight Breakdowns: UFC on ESPN Blaydes vs Volkov

Frank Chamacho $8,000 vs. Justin Jaynes N/A

Justin Jaynes

  • Age: 30
  • Height: 5-foot-6
  • Weight: 155 lbs
  • Reach: 67.5 in.
  • Record: 8-1-0
  • Striking Accuracy: N/A
  • Betting Odds: +275

Jaynes is taking this fight on two days’ notice; this will be his UFC debut, and I am not so sure it is going to work out in his favor. From the tape I have watched; looks like he could have some success with takedowns, but I think Camacho will have the clear advantage on the feet. Jaynes’s best path to victory, I feel would be to come in with a ground heavy attack, although I do not think his cardio will hold up for three rounds.

Frank Camacho

  • Age: 31
  • Height: 5-foot-8
  • Weight: 170 lbs
  • Reach: 73 in.
  • Record: 22-8-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 46%
  • Betting Odds: -350

Camacho is a wild and crazy fighter. He will walk his opponents down and is always looking for the takedown. He throws hard knees to the body and head and he is aggressive with his single/double legs. Camacho likes taking the fight to the mat where he is capable of nasty ground and pound. The best way for Camacho to win this fight will be to keep this fight standing where he will have the clear advantage.

My preferred play is Camacho. I feel his striking will be too much for Jaynes to withstand, even though Camacho has showed a weak chin of late.

MMA DFS Pick: Frank Camacho via Second Round KO/TKO

Tecia Torres $7,200 vs. Brianna Van Buren $9,000

Tecia Torres

  • Age: 30
  • Height: 5-foot-1
  • Weight: 115 lbs
  • Reach: 60.5 in.
  • Record: 10-5-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 48%
  • Betting Odds: +155

Torres will be entering this fight on a four-fight losing streak, so this is a must-win fight for her to get back in the win column. She has fast hands and nice boxing skills and she will throw a solid one two, overhand right combination. Torres will throw hard kicks to the head and body, then she will follow with a solid right, left hook combinations. She is a good striker, so I feel her striking will be her best path to victory.

Brianna Van Buren

  • Age: 26
  • Height: 5-foot-0
  • Weight: 115 lbs
  • Reach: 62 in.
  • Record: 9-2-0
  • Striking Accuracy: N/A
  • Betting Odds: -200

Van Buren is a solid grappler with a dangerous submission game that can finish her opponents in a hurry. She has three wins by submission with her armbar and triangle being the most dangerous. Van Buren is a quick and aggressive fighter, always bringing pressure to wear her opponent down. She will bring a heavy grappling gameplan, which will be her best path to victory.

My preferred play is Van Buren. Her smothering pressure should wear Torres down, which in return should lead to a win by submission.

MMA DFS Pick: Brianna Van Buren via Second-Round Submission.

Jim Miller $7,000 vs. Roosevelt Roberts $9,200

Jim Miller

  • Age: 36
  • Height: 5-foot-7
  • Weight: 155 lbs
  • Reach: 71 in.
  • Record: 31-14-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 41%
  • Betting Odds: +195

Miller is a solid wrestler. He is a black belt in jiu-jitsu and has a strong submission game. He throws a lighting quick jab, straight left-hand combination that when landing clean can be devastating to his opponents. Miller’s uppercut combination with inside leg kicks are dangerous and can wear his opponents down. He is a solid grappler, and taking the fight to the mat seems to be his best shot at a victory.

Roosevelt Roberts

  • Age: 26
  • Height: 6-foot-2
  • Weight: 155 lbs
  • Reach: 73 in.
  • Record: 10-1-0
  • Striking Accuracy: N/A
  • Betting Odds: -230

Roberts likes to walk his opponents down, where he uses his jab, one-two very effectively. He has fast hands and will look to throw heavy straight punches to the body and head. Roberts is a decent grappler, but that is not his strongest skill set in his arsenal. His best path to victory will be to keep this fight standing and use his pressure to wear Miller down.

My preferred play is Roberts. He will have the striking advantage so long as he avoids going to the mat with a dangerous submission artist like Miller.

MMA DFS Pick: Roosevelt Roberts via Unanimous Decision.

Belal Muhammad $8,900 vs. Lyman Good $7,300

Belal Muhammad

  • Age: 31
  • Height: 5-foot-9
  • Weight: 170 lbs
  • Reach: 72 in.
  • Record: 16-3-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 42%
  • Betting Odds: -145

Muhammad is a good striker. He will come out throwing a barrage of kicks to the body and head. He throws a nasty one-two, straight right, overhand left combination, and sometimes will follow with a spinning backfist. Muhammad is a good grappler and he will take his opponents down and control top position. So Muhammad’s best path to victory will be using his body kicks and striking to set up his takedowns, where he should be able to finish Good.

Lyman Good

  • Age: 35
  • Height: 6-foot-0
  • Weight: 170 lbs
  • Reach: 74 in.
  • Record: 21-5-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 49%
  • Betting: +125

Good is a solid striker and he has power in his hands that can finish his opponents in a hurry. He throws a nasty jab, straight right hand with dangerous power, and he will also throw a sick right, left hook combination that will put his opponents to sleep. Good’s best shot at victory is to keep this fight standing and use his power to finish Muhammad.

My preferred play is Muhammad. He should have an advantage when this fight hits the mat.

MMA DFS Pick: Belal Muhammad via Third-Round Submission.

Josh Emmett $7,500 vs. Shane Burgos $8,700

Josh Emmett

  • Age: 35
  • Height: 5-foot-5
  • Weight: 145 lbs
  • Reach: 70 in.
  • Record: 15-2-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 37%
  • Betting Odds: +115

Emmett is a power striker and he throws a jab, straight right-hand combination that will put his opponents lights out. Emmett is solid on the feet, where he will use feints very effectively to set up his power shots. He is also a strong grappler with two submission wins. Emmett’s best path to victory will be to keep this fight standing and use his power striking where he should be able to secure a finish.

Shane Burgos

  • Age: 29
  • Height: 5-foot-9
  • Weight: 145 lbs
  • Reach: 75.5 in.
  • Record: 15-2-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 48%
  • Betting Odds: -135

Burgos is a good striker. He throws a nice uppercut, right hook combination that can be affective. He likes working the body with nasty hooks and straight punches. Burgos is a particularly good counter striker and he can hurt his opponents when they are throwing punches. Burgos should take this fight to the mat, which seems to be his best shot at a win.

My preferred play is Emmett. His striking should be too much for Burgos to handle, although do not sleep on Burgos. Emmett is my underdog pick because I feel he has found his rhythm the last few fights.

MMA DFS Pick: Josh Emmett via. Second-Round TKO/KO.

Curtis “Razor” Blaydes $9,400 vs. Alexander “ Drago” Volkov $6,800

Curtis Blaydes

  • Age: 29
  • Height: 6-foot-3
  • Weight: 265 lbs
  • Reach: 80 in.
  • Record: 13-2-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 51%
  • Betting Odds: -400

Blaydes is an explosive athlete. He throws heavy punches with huge power and has devastating ground and pound. He has worked hard on his grappling. Therefore, he finishes his takedowns with power and authority. Blaydes is coming into this fight on a three-fight winning streak, and it should continue with this fight. His best path to victory will be using his power striking to finish Volkov.

Alexander Volkov

  • Age: 31
  • Height: 6-foot-6
  • Weight: 250 lbs
  • Reach: 80 in.
  • Record: 31-7-0
  • Striking Accuracy: 57%
  • Betting Odds: +320

Volkov is a good striker. He throws a solid one-two, straight right combination with power. He will push forward, using his jab and straight punches while looking to get inside and shoot for the takedown. Volkov’s best path to victory will be looking for takedowns and trying to wear Blaydes down, therefore grinding out a win.

My preferred play is Blaydes. His power striking should get the job done. That said, do not sleep on Volkov, specially at his DraftKings price of $6,800. He would be a solid value play there in a finish win.

MMA DFS Pick: Curtis “Razor” Blaydes via Third-Round KO/TKO.
