UFC Vegas 19: Blaydes vs. Lewis Post Weigh-In Analysis

Blaydes vs. Lewis

Derrick Lewis weighed in at 263 lbs, while Curtis Blaydes weighed in at 259 lbs. Both fighters looked like their usual selves, and our main event of the evening is official!

Vieira vs. Kunitskaya

Yana Kunitskaya weighed in at 135.5 lbs, while Ketlen Vieira missed weight by 2 lbs, hitting 138 lbs. I was surprised to see Kunitskaya size up pretty well against Vieira.

Rosa vs. Minner

Charles Rosa made weight at 146 lbs and looked really lean. Darrick Minner always looks shredded and hit 146 lbs. Rosa brought the intensity to the stare-down, and this should be a good one!

Daukaus vs. Oleinik

In true veteran fashion, Aleksei Oleinik made weight at 240 lbs, while Chris Daukaus was 234 lbs.

Hawes vs. Imavov

Phil Hawes looked like an action figure once again weighing in at 185 lbs. Nassourdine Imavov is a long-framed fighter for the division and looks well prepared at 185.5 lbs.

Aspinall vs. Arlovski

Andrei Arlovski in typical fashion made weight at 249.5 lbs, while Tom Aspinall was 244.5 lbs.  Aspinall surprised me as he looked larger than Arlovski.

Gordon vs. Chavez

Jared Gordon cuts a good amount of weight, and missed the featherweight limit, coming in at 150 lbs. Danny Chavez looked strong on the scale, making 145 lbs on the nose. The stare-down was intense, as Chavez was trash-talking Gordon for missing weight. You always have to worry about a fighter missing weight by a large margin, so tread carefully.

Klose vs. Pena

Luis Pena weighed in at 155.5 lbs and looked to be in good shape. Drakkar Klose looked good at 156 lbs. Pena’s height and reach advantages were clear at the stare-down. Klose will have to get inside that reach.

Castaneda vs. Wineland

Eddie Wineland looked aged on the scale but weighed in at 135.5 lbs. John Castaneda was 136 lbs even. The takeaway from this bout would be that Wineland’s cuts are getting more difficult over the years.

Landwehr vs. Erosa

Julian Erosa weighed in at 145.5 lbs and looked really fit. Nate Landwehr seemed relieved to make 146 lbs. He looked to be in good shape but could have overcome some adversity to make the limit. Erosa’s height and reach advantage was evident in the stare-down.

Alves vs. Sabatini

This fight has been canceled as Rafael Alves made history and missed weight by 12 lbs. Pat Sabatini who accepted the fight on short notice, made weight at 145.5 lbs. What a disappointment for Alves, who was distraught on the scale and clearly embarrassed.

O’Neil vs. Dobson

Casey O’Neil made weight in her debut, but didn’t have the most positive body language. O’Neil looked a little nervous. Shana Dobson was 126 lbs and looks decently sized for the division.

Emmers vs. Skelly

Chas Skelly made weight at 146 lbs but has a strange physique. Jamall Emmers looked really strong and fit on the scale.

Rodriguez vs. Zahabi

Aiemann Zahabi hit 136 lbs even and wasn’t impressive on the scale, looking sucked out. Drako Rodriguez looked to have more muscle than his opponent, but missed weight by 4 lbs, weighing in at 140.5 lbs. This is not what you like to see for a debuting fighter and only adds to the volatility of this matchup.

Spivak vs. Vanderaa

Jared Vanderaa made the heavyweight limit at 265 lbs even, showing that he is a big boy. Sergey Spivak looked normal on the scale hitting 245 lbs. In the stare down it was evident how much taller Spivak is.
