The Takedown: MMA DFS Picks for DraftKings + FanDuel UFC Vegas 37: Smith vs. Spann | Tonight, 9/18

Welcome to The Takedown, UFC fans. Today we are back at The UFC Apex, with an exciting light heavyweight main event of UFC Vegas 37: Anthony Smith vs. Ryan Spann. Here I offer some of my favorite MMA DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel UFC lineups with the help Awesemo’s expert UFC DFS projections. So, let’s dig into some MMA DFS picks and analysis for UFC Vegas 36.

UFC Vegas 37: Smith  vs. Spann | DraftKings + FanDuel MMA DFS Picks

Top-End Picks

Ion Cutelaba | DraftKings: $9,000, FanDuel: $19

Cutelaba will be the more well-rounded fighter, although probably more of a striker at this point in his career. Devin Clark will be looking to get this fight to the mat, however, Clark could find himself in an uncomfortable situation choosing this route against Cutelaba. I expect Cutelaba to come out with explosive striking and strong grappling, although Cutelaba will need to be careful against the power that Clark possesses. For DFS, Cutelaba has a high ceiling and the ability to score well with a first-round finish, which I expect could easily happen with a first-round submission. Awesemo’s UFC DFS DraftKings and FanDuel Projections give Cutelaba 58% win odds.

Mid-Priced Picks

Tafon Nchukwi | DraftKings: $8,800, FanDuel: $17

Nchukwi made his UFC debut against Jamie Pickett when he went to a decision for the first time in his career. Nchukwi suffered his first loss in May against Jun Yong Park. He has power to finish his opponents. Nchukwi won the Cage Fury Fighting Championship with a knockout of Willian Knight. Nchukwi also had an impressive head-kick knockout over Al Matavao on the Contender Series, which earned Nchukwi his coveted UFC contract. For DFS, Nchukwi is a strong mid-priced play due to his knockout upside and will be the higher-volume striker. Awesemo’s UFC DFS projections give Nchukwi 53% win odds with a 35% chance for a knockout.

Value Picks

Rong Zhu | DraftKings: $7,600, FanDuel: $21

Zhu will be hoping to make amends after his UFC debut loss. He will be the more technical striker and his forward pressure should cause problems for Brandon Jenkins. Zhu had fought his whole career for Chinese promotion  and was riding a 10-fight winning streak that included six knockouts and three submissions. For DFS, Zhu is a lock in cash at $7,600 and I expect he will be looking to make a statement to get his UFC career back in the right direction after his disappointing debut loss. Awesemo’s UFC DFS projections give 74% win odds with a 38% chance for a knockout.

Antonio Arroyo | DraftKings: $6,900, FanDuel: $11

This is a value play based on ownership and the potential for a submission or knockout finish. That said, Arroyo is a dangerous striker and big for the division, he is extremely explosive and has huge power in his hands. Arroyo has finished seven opponents in the first round, he is a very durable fighter and could give Joaquin Buckley a lot of problems. For DFS, there is a risk here, but high reward as well. Awesemo’s UFC DFS projections give Arroyo 35% win odds.
