NBA DFS Picks: Value + Stud for Sept. 22
Value Pick: Alex Caruso
DraftKings $3,600, FanDuel $8,000
It looks like the NBA is giving the Eastern Conference Finals a bit of a break so the West can catch up. This is why there was no game yesterday, while the Lakers and Nuggets play again after they played Game 2 on Sunday. As a result, it’s hard to not like most of the players I liked from Sunday’s slate. It’s all the same matchups and the prices aren’t changing all that much from game-to-game.
Believe it or not, we at Awesemo are not contractually obligated to mention Caruso in articles. Even so, I get excited when he stands out as a potential strong source of value. Despite a healthy Rajon Rondo playing a full workload, Caruso is playing a big role for the Lakers’ in the postseason. In Game 2 of this series, Caruso played 29 minutes and even played long stretches of the closing minutes of the game. He’s consistently playing around 25 minutes in the playoffs, which is more playing time than we can count on from other cheap plays in this contest.

Stud Pick: LeBron James
DraftKings $12,000, FanDuel $16,000
I want to continue to ride LeBron, who actually has seen a decrease in salary from Game 2 on DraftKings. I am not exactly sure what’s caused a dip in price, but this means that there is a minimal amount of salary differentiating him from Anthony Davis and Nikola Jokic. Unless there is a massive ownership gap between the three stars, I want to go to James, who I project as the best overall fantasy player in this game. He is a putting together a terrific postseason run for the Lakers and rarely has bad fantasy outcomes these days. His only recent outing that wasn’t great came in Game 1 against the Nuggets, but this was because the Lakers won via blowout and he wasn’t needed to play much in the fourth quarter.
Contrarian Pick: Michael Porter
DraftKings $7,600, FanDuel $9,500
Porter is another player who saw a price dip heading into Game 3. It’s not hard to see what happened with his salary. After putting up a ton of fantasy points in garbage time during Game 1, he came back to earth in Game 2. Porter played 20 minutes and scored 20 DraftKings points which isn’t bad per minute production. That’s the thing with Porter. We never know exactly how much he will play, but he almost always produces when he gets on the court. There is a ton of variance in the frontcourt minutes on Denver between Porter and Paul Millsap. This uncertainty typically keeps Porter’s ownership in check. He isn’t safe, but his good games come with a high ceiling, and there are few other players on a one-game slate with a chance to break the break the slate at modest ownership.
