NBA DFS Picks

Stephen Curry

Curry will be a common theme in my NBA articles this season because I expect him to be one of the best per-minute fantasy producers in the league without Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins or Klay Thompson (for at least the first half of the season) and the preseason is no different. Curry played 18 and 25 minutes in his first two games of the preseason and attempted 11 and 19 field goals. He averaged 1.86 DraftKings points per minute with a 47.2 percent usage percentage without any of Durant, Cousins or Thompson on the floor last season. While this isn’t a perfect estimate since the Warriors added another scorer in D’Angelo Russell, I certainly don’t expect Russell to be taking too many looks away from Curry.

De’Aaron Fox

The Kings have played three games so far this preseason and Fox has been getting huge minutes. The Sacramento point guard logged 33 minutes in an overtime loss to the Pacers on Oct. 4 and then followed it up with another 26 minutes on the second half of a back-to-back. In the Kings’ third preseason game, Fox saw 29 minutes of action. Fox was one of the most improved players in the NBA last season and averaged 1.1 DraftKings points per minute. His matchup with the Jazz is less than ideal, but this game still has a healthy 223.5 total and Fox is only $6,800 on DraftKings.

Trae Young

Young is quite a bit more expensive than Fox, but that could help keep his ownership in check. He played 26 and 28 minutes in Atlanta’s first two preseason games. Evan Turner is returning tonight for the Hawks so it is at least possible that Young loses a couple minutes if Atlanta wants to see Turner handling the ball a bit, but we should still expect Young to play in the 25-28 minute range barring any news this afternoon. Young was a strong fantasy performer in his rookie season, averaging 1.13 DraftKings points per minute. While his matchup against Miami isn’t great, his ability to get hot from beyond the three-point line gives him an even higher ceiling than his per-minute average indicates.

Jaren Jackson Jr.

Jackson is the best play on the slate, in my opinion. He is just $4,000 on DraftKings and $3,500 on FanDuel. He played 21 and 28 minutes in the Grizzlies’ first two games of the preseason. There is absolutely no reason for him to be the minimum salary other than DraftKings made a mistake. Jackson averaged 0.97 DraftKings points per minute last season as a rookie and we should naturally expect him to improve this season. He averaged 1.04 points per minute without either of Marc Gasol or Jonas Valanciunas on the floor, as well. I really don’t care that Jackson will be popular, I would get as much as you can and look to be different elsewhere.
