NBA DFS DraftKings Showdown Review | Heat vs. Lakers NBA Finals Game 3

We had an exciting and rare NBA DFS result in Sunday’s Game 3 DraftKings NBA Showdown GPP. There were three unique lineups up top, all from 150-maxers, and a 354-way tie for fourth place. Let’s take a look at what happened.

NBA DFS DraftKings Showdown Review | Heat vs. Lakers NBA Finals Game 3

Sunday night, in the DraftKings NBA Showdown $700,000 Game 3 Finals Shootaround ($150,000 to firstst, $20 to enter):

Congratulations to Dr. Karl, who shipped this GPP solo, besting 41,175 other entries and winning by almost two points.

Obviously, we have a unique situation here with 88.6%-owned Anthony Davis not in the winning lineup and having a snowflake next to his name. Most lineups entered contained a combination of LeBron James, Davis and Jimmy Butler, but not Dr. Karl. He played Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro instead of Davis and Kyle Kuzma as the fourth-place lineups did. Second and third place were also unique lineups, and they were entered by the same player, CrucnchlorD. The lineups were identical except he played Rajon Rondo and Jae Crowder instead of Herro.

Because of Davis failing for his price, we had a winning lineup with a much lower team salary than normal: $47,300. The lowest team salaries we have seen win in the last 40 slates are $48,900 and $48,300. Team ownership percentage (TO%) for this lineup checked in at 196.4%, comfortably inside the range of previous winners.

This is true especially when you note that the fourth-place lineup, which was played 354 times, had a high TO% of 244.3%.

We had 60 150-maxers, making up 22% of the field. Four out of 69 made money, including taking first, second, third and fourth place 37 times. Fourth place paid out $463.95, second paid $60,000 and third paid $30,000. Bust of the day goes to Davis, who scored 27.75 points (2.3x) for $12,200, and boom of the day must go to Markieff Morris, who scored 31.5 points (11.3x) for $2,800.

Basically, to get the result that we did in this GPP, Morris needed to outscore Davis, and he did. It will be fascinating to see what happens tonight with Bam Adebayo most likely back and a GPP 17,000 entries larger than Game 3.
