NBA DFS DraftKings Showdown Review | Heat vs. Lakers NBA Finals Game 4

Tuesday night we had quite the chalky lineup take first place, something that has been tough to avoid in NBA DFS Showdown slates this series due to a combination of DraftKings pricing as well as LeBron James and Anthony Davis being such a large percentage of the Lakers offense. Let’s look at how the slate finished up.

NBA DFS DraftKings Showdown Review | Heat vs. Lakers NBA Finals Game 4

As mentioned, the first-place lineup was chalky and we ended up with a 359-way tie for first place, which paid out $1,786.62 on the $25 entry fee. While that payout might seem nice to some, to enter 150 entries in this GPP cost $3,750; we will see how they did in a minute. Second place was a 90-way tie paying out $100 (they lost by 0.5 points), third place was duped 54 times, and finally, fourth place was a 220-way tie that paid out $80.

Getting back to the winning lineup, we can see that the team salary was $50,000 and the team had an ownership sum of 231.9%.

Uhhuhbro deep dives into the Heat and Lakers Game 4 NBA Finals

It is obvious given the ownership and salary that this was going to be a highly duplicated lineup. In the NBA Strategy show this morning, Josh and Adam talked about this series being especially difficult to create lineups that have a chance to win and be duplicated less than an absurd amount of times. Given pricing and the makeup of the Lakers, sub optimal lineups that we look to play in Showdown slates have a much less chance of being optimal in this particular series. To really get different you need to not play one of the three stars; we saw this work in Game 3 due to Davis’ failure to hit value and Markieff Morris putting up 31.5 points for $2,800.  It seems a very low probability that something like that will will happen again, but that is why they play the games.

This has not been a particularly fun Showdown series to play for contrarian players.

GPP Observations and 150-Maxers

Getting back to the slate, we had 58,823 entries from 21,776 unique players. Of those players, 5,369 (9.6%) made money, but only eight made more than $2,000, and no one profited more than $8,750 in the main GPP. Boom of the night goes to Morris (38.4%) again, putting up 6x on his $2,800 salary. Bust was Kelly Olynyk (41.7%) who went for 1.9x on $3,200 salary. We only had 73 entries that were reserved and not played.

We had 71 150-maxers making up 18.1% of the entries. Only three made a profit on the night. Five did not cash a single lineup. It is not surprising to see CrunchlorD and Dr. Karl (big Game 3 winners), as they play very contrarian lineups. Even though only three made a profit, 31 of 71 of the 150-maxers had a share of first place. Even more remarkable, the most profitable 150-maxer played the same lineup 150 times and took 12,459th place, which gave him a profit of $2,250:
