The Jock MKT Starter Kit: NBA Picks | Feb. 16

How to Play at Jock MKT

To begin, enter the NBA Daily Market when the Initial Public Offering (IPO) phase is under way. Leading up until the start of the first game, bid up on players you are interested in acquiring on the open market. Is there a player who you consider a favorite to finish at the top of the rankings? Invest as much or as little as you want in their fantasy performance, with shares beginning at $1 and ranging all the way up to $25. See potential injury news that could open up an opportunity for another player to acquire fantasy points? Make speculative bids for shares of the back-up, hoping for that news to break after the IPO phase is complete.

The next part of the game occurs during live trading. Unlike in regular NBA DFS where your plays are locked in, you can buy and sell shares of players while the games are happening based on their production and where you could see them finishing amongst the field. Track as current points, projected points, and live price for each player is updated in real time, allowing you to track the action and invest in an instant to account for news. Trading can be done all the way up until the final buzzer of the night’s final game.

At the end of the games, each player share is paid out based on their final rankings of fantasy points amongst the field. If the shares you own are worth more than what you paid, you win money. It’s as simple as that! For more information, go to jockmkt.com.

Strategy Session: Absent Stars

There are only three games on the card tonight, and two of the biggest names have already been ruled out: Kevin Durant (hamstring) and Anthony Davis (Achilles). As two of the highest-ranked players in usage this season, there is plenty of opportunity to go around for the remaining Nets and Lakers players when the two clubs meet Thursday night. First for Brooklyn, the main beneficiaries are Kyrie Irving and James Harden, with their usage rates increasing 2.7% and 3.2% without Durant, respectively. But the lower-end players are also worth considering in the IPO. Albeit with Irving inactive, Joe Harris had a strong showing in Tuesday’s incredible come-from-behind win over the Suns, recording 29 Jock points. The sharp shooter has now topped 20 Jock points in two of his past three, and he receives a 1.3% usage bump with Durant off the floor since Harden was acquired by Brooklyn. Lastly, Bruce Brown and DeAndre Jordan both underachieved Tuesday and are two Nets starters that are worth considering with Durant out of the lineup.

As for the Lakers, this is strong spot for them going against this Nets’ defense that has been terrible since making the blockbuster for Harden. They currently rank 26th in defensive efficiency and fourth in pace. With Davis missing, LeBron James is the obvious top option, hence his No. 2 ranking in the IPO. Dennis Schroder sees a 1.8% usage bump without Davis and the pace increase is great for his game, but the Laker I will be paying attention to in the IPO is Markieff Morris. Kyle Kuzma struggled as the replacement starter for Davis on Tuesday, only tallying 13.5 Jock point, and it’s possible that Morris will join the starting five over Kuzma after this poor showing. This game is the final of the night tip-off, and the Lakers starting five won’t be released till well after the IPO locks. Grabbing some early cheap shares of Morris could really pay off if he earns the spot start.

The final situation to monitor is Kyle Lowry (ankle) being questionable against the Bucks. This is the first contest of the slate, so we should know word of his status before the IPO closes, but it could come very close to the 7:30 p.m. EST lock point. Attacking Fred VanVleet, Norman Powell and Pascal Siakam early in the IPO might be a wise strategy, in the hopes that most of the players don’t react fast enough and we get these key remaining Raptors’ at discounted prices.

My Jock MKT NBA Picks for Tonight:

Hassan Whiteside

He didn’t earn the start, but Whiteside erupted for 55 Jock points in 23.4 minutes off the bench with Richaun Holmes (knee) out Monday against the Nets. This is the most playing time Whiteside has received this season, and Holmes has already been ruled ahead of Thursday night, along with Harrison Barnes (foot). This performance might have be enough to earn Whiteside the start tonight, but even if that isn’t the case, the always-productive big man should see at least 20 minutes of work.

That might not seem like much, but Whiteside is averaging 42 Jock points in the two contests he has logged at least 20 minutes in 2020-21. His matchup isn’t great against a Heat defense that ranks 11th in efficiency, but this is Whiteside’s chance to prove to Luke Walton that he deserves more time going forward. Whiteside should be highly motivated, and I wouldn’t put it past him to finish inside the top 10 in fantasy points tonight.

O.G. Anunoby

Anunoby (calf) returned to action Tuesday after missing 10 straight games and produced 25.75 Jock points against the Bucks. He started in this win and logged 27 minutes. This is an encouraging sign that Anunoby is close to full strength, and he should get near the 30-minute mark in tonight’s rematch with Milwaukee, with room for more if Lowry is out.

Nonetheless, Anunoby is being undervalued right now and the Bucks defense he is facing has been a mess with Jrue Holiday (health protocols) sidelined. Since Holiday was forced to self-isolate from the team, Milwaukee has rated as the sixth-worst defense in basketball. In just his second start back from injury, I doubt many people will be perusing Anunoby, and we should be able to get him cheap in the IPO.

Tyrese Haliburton

With Barnes missing his first tilt of the season, I suspect Halliburton will be the player that fills his void in the starting five. This Kings – Heat matchup doesn’t start until 10 p.m. EST, so we most likely won’t have a confirmed starting lineup for Sacramento during the IPO. Without official word, Haliburton’s price should remain reasonable, and I highly recommend purchasing some shares of the promising rookie.

He is generating 29.5 Jock points in his past 10, and Haliburton’s usage rises a team-high 4.5% with Barnes and Holmes off the court. Even in the event that he remains a reserve, he should see above 30 minutes against the Heat. In his last five with 30 minutes or more, Haliburton is providing 31.1 Jock points.
