NBA Daily Fantasy Injury Report: Starting Lineups & Today’s Breaking NBA News for DraftKings & FanDuel Picks Tonight | 11/1/21

The NBA Injury Report is not filled with many big-name stars as of right now. With this article, the work of the other staff members and the amazing NBA DFS projections, those scenarios can be handled much more easily. That allows for pivoting at the drop of a hat, and the NBA Starting Lineup page is an extremely important tool as well. There are nine games for NBA DFS and many paths to choose from.

NBA Injury Report & Starting Lineups Today | Nov. 1

Remember to always place players from the later games in guard, forward and utility slots on DraftKings. Allow maximum flexibility to react to the news that comes out after lock, which will happen in NBA. Additionally, take advantage of the wealth of Awesemo NBA content to get ready for these slates.

Teams Playing the Second of a Back-to-Back

Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers

Cleveland Cavaliers at Charlotte Hornets

Cavaliers – Isaac Okoro – Out

Cleveland has been without Okoro for the past couple of games. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley are very intriguing in this game since the Hornets are 29th in points in the paint allowed and the Hornets play at the fifth-fastest pace in the league. They both are over 0.90 fantasy points per minute while Mobley has 7.4 paint touches per game and Allen has 9.1 per game, 10th in the league.

Hornets – Not Yet Submitted

As of yesterday, the Hornets were fully healthy. Terry Rozier had made it back into the lineup and played 33 minutes, suggesting he could start once again. Charlotte will be updated as need when the afternoon NBA Injury Report is available.

San Antonio Spurs at Indiana Pacers

Spurs – Doug McDermott – Out

There has not been one particular player that has stood out for the Spurs when McDermott has been out. Lonnie Walker IV is right alongside Dejounte Murray in usage at about 24.5% but the minutes are unstable. For instance, last time out Walker only played 19 minutes and did not score over 14.3 DraftKings points.

Pacers – Malcolm Brogdon, Caris LeVert – Questionable

Jeremy Lamb – Doubtful

T.J. Warren – IR

Assuming Lamb is out, his 18 minutes per game would be spread out between Torrey Craig and maybe Justin Holiday. Regardless, this is not an injury that moves the needle all that much since Lamb since he is playing under 19 minutes per night. It could matter more if LeVert and Brogdon would be out. If both make it back for this game, it will be the first time they have played together this season. LeVert only played 15 minutes in his first game back from a back injury and it could be expected that he plays 18 or so tonight.

The trio of LeVert, Brogdon, and Domantas Sabonis played 403 minutes together last season. All three had a usage over 22% and fantasy points per minute of at least 1.02 with LeVert being third in that metric and Sabonis being third in usage. Sabonis is expensive on DraftKings but very affordable on FanDuel. He and Jakob Poeltl for the Spurs are in the top five in paint touches and that should be a fantasy friendly matchup.

If Brogdon remains out, T.J. McConnell has been starting with just a 15.3% usage and Chris Duarte has a 26% usage and 0.88 fantasy point per minute. There are many revolving pieces for the Pacers tonight and this situation is vital to the slate.

Portland Trail Blazers at Philadelphia 76ers

Trail Blazers – Not Yet Submitted

Portland played in Charlotte last night and had every player available to them. Unless something changes in the NBA Injury Report in the afternoon, that is the expectation tonight.

76ers – Ben Simmons – Out

Joel Embiid is off the injury report, which is a surprise. He is only about 10 days removed from reports that he was hurting while walking around after the game against the Pelicans in October. The usage for Embiid is 31.6% and his fantasy points per minute are 1.40, but the trust level is still hard to find. He is due some positive regression in one very important aspect of his game. On the year, Embiid has ran a post up 32% of the time, highest in the league. He is only shooting 46.2% and scoring 6.5 points from that play type. The Trail Blazers have faced the fewest field goal attempts per game from that play type, but Embiid is not going to shoot under 50% forever. For context, he shot almost 53% last season and scored 10 points per game.

Update – Embiid has been ruled out and that will open up a starting role for Andre Drummond tonight. He is over 1.40 fantasy points per minute and has racked up 13 rebounding chances per game on just 15.8 minutes per game. Portland is playing the second game of a back-to-back so this is going to give Drummond a ton of chances to rack up fantasy points. He’s only $4,400 on DraftKings and the argument to fade is very difficult to make, even at the expected chalkiness.

The sample is only 26 minutes but Tobias Harris stands out as well with a 32.9% usage rate and 1.27 fantasy points per minute. The salary is obviously very different but Harris is going to be the primary scoring threat against a team that is just 16th in defensive rating.

Chicago Bulls at Boston Celtics

Bulls – Coby White, Patrick Williams – IR

Javonte Green was elevated into the starting lineup with the loss of Williams, and he played 22 minutes. The bad news for fantasy is he only generated 9.5 DraftKings points and with the other members of the starting five, that is not in line to change.

Celtics – None

Boston is one of the few teams that have a clear NBA Injury Report.

Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks

Wizards – Rui Hachimura – Out

Thomas Bryant – IR

Daniel Gafford – Questionable

The only question for the Wizards is the status of Gafford, which has a direct effect on Montrezl Harrell. When Gafford has missed time, Harrell has played at least 34 minutes a game. He scorched the Hawks just two games ago for over 56 DraftKings points as one of the chalkiest players on the entire slate. The salary has come up now to almost $7,000 and while Harrell features 1.22 fantasy points per minutes and a 20.8% usage rate without Gafford, he is not cheap. Atlanta is just 23rd in points allowed in the paint and Harrell is fourth in field goal attempts inside the paint and first in points. Harrell needs to see Gafford sit again to be viable at this salary.

Hawks – Onyeka Okongwu – IR

Atlanta looks to be healthy entering this game, which is a great spot for Clint Capela and John Collins. Capela is not yet playing a full allotment of minutes and if Collins can stay out of four trouble, his pick and roll prowess can give Washington a ton of issues. They are 25th in points allowed in the paint and only Giannis Antetokounmpo has a higher point per possession as the roll man in the pick and roll play type.

Toronto Raptors at New York Knicks

Raptors – Pascal Siakam – IR

The Raptors have been remarkably consistent in the NBA Injury Report so far in that they almost never have anyone on it aside from Siakam.

Update – Scottie Barnes is now listed as doubtful with a thumb injury. That is a significant injury as both Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent see their usage tick up by around 3%, although the fantasy points per minute marks stay stagnant. Chris Boucher sees an increase in that department up to 1.25 fantasy points per minute and could draw the start against the Knicks. At only $4,000 on DraftKings, he could be one of the stronger values not named Drummond.

Knicks – Nerlens Noel – Questionable

This situation has also been a consistent presence for the Knicks because Noel has been questionable without playing the whole year. Taj Gibson has been playing 18-21 minutes per night as the backup center with 0.91 fantasy points per minute and a quiet 13.2% usage.

Denver Nuggets at Memphis Grizzlies

Nuggets – Jamal Murray – Out

If history is any indication, Nikola Jokic is one of the better high-end targets on the slate. In his last nine games against center Steven Adams, Jokic has hit 50 DraftKings points every time and has seven games over 60 DraftKings points. Memphis is 29th in defensive rating, which is always appealing when potentially playing Jokic with his 1.83 fantasy points per minute.

Grizzlies – Dillon Brooks –Out

This is the same NBA Injury Report for the Grizzlies that it has been this season.

Update – Ja Morant has been added to the injury report and that would have a massive ripple effect on the Grizzlies. There is not a large sample size for any player but the leader in minutes without Morant is Jaren Jackson Jr. and he has a 36.9% usage rate and 1.61 fantasy points per minute. That looks great, but foul trouble has to be a concern if he’s down low against Jokic for any length of time.

The duo of De’Anthony Melton and Desmond Bane see their usage go up over 4% as well and both remain over 1.05 fantasy points per minute. Lastly, Kyle Anderson is over 1.70 fantasy points per minute but the sample is just 21 minutes. Jackson could be a popular play but could also be a trap if Jokic gets him into foul trouble.

Orlando Magic at Minnesota Timberwolves

Magic – Michael Carter-Williams, Markelle Fultz – IR

Chuma Okeke made it back for his first game the last time the Magic took the floor, but he played under 16 minutes and had no reasonable effect on the main Magic players.

Timberwolves – None

Oklahoma City Thunder at Los Angeles Clippers

Thunder – None

Clippers – Kawhi Leonard – IR

Serge Ibaka, Marcus Morris – Out

Ibaka has yet to play this year and Morris has been out for the past three games. Nicholas Batum has played at least 22 minutes in each of those three games. However, the 13.7% usage rate and 0.80 fantasy points per minute are not super appealing.
