With this article, the work of the other staff members and the amazing NBA DFS projections, those scenarios can be handled much more easily. That allows for pivoting at the drop of a hat, and the NBA Starting Lineup page is an extremely important tool as well. There are five games for NBA DFS and plenty of question marks to go over.

Teams Playing the Second of a Back-to-Back

Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics

Philadelphia 76ers at Detroit Pistons

76ers – Not Yet Submitted

The official NBA Injury Report may not be in but there are some factors already known. Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons, and Danny Green all remain out. Last night saw Matisse Thybulle enter the starting lineup and play 38 minutes, grinding his way to 25 DraftKings points. Playing 38 minutes for those amount of points is a bit ugly, but it still counts. It’s not surprising since his usage is 9.5%. The primary group of targets continues to be Georges Niang, Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey, Furkan Korkmaz, and Joel Embiid. Niang has stacked consecutive games of at least 30 minutes, and it does not matter at all that he does not start.

He is still playing more than Korkmaz and that is more important since the fantasy points per minute are 1.26 for Korkmaz and 1.06 for Niang. The entire field flocked to the cheap players last night and left Curry under 5% rostered on DraftKings. He has scored over 20 real points in both and if the field continues to ignore him, it’s very notable. Curry is shooting an unsustainable 54% from 3-point distance, but Detroit is giving up the highest field goal percentage so far at 43.6%.

Update – Korkmaz is questionable and the team is undergoing Covid testing as they had another case crop up.

Pistons – None

Utah Jazz at Atlanta Hawks

Jazz – Donovan Mitchell, Royce O’Neal – Questionable

Hassan Whiteside – Probable

Rudy Gay – IR

There was some confusion on Wednesday night that Rudy Gobert could be out but he was not on the NBA Injury Report at all as of 11:30 PM. If that remains the case, there is a strong chance the Jazz will be at full strength. The Mitchell injury is not a huge concern at the moment because he played a full half of basketball after he rolled his ankle. It did not look great when it happened, but his 32 minutes were not out of line.

Hawks – Not Yet Submitted

The official version is not available yet, but this is a team that will be on the radar. John Collins was a game-time decision last night and ultimately played 36 minutes alongside Clint Capela and his 33 minutes. With Capela at full minutes now, perhaps there should not be much concern with him. Collins going all the way up until game time yesterday is the one that needs to be monitored. If something happens, Kevin Huerter and Danilo Gallinari would be candidates to enter the starting lineup.

Update – Collins is questionable officially.

Boston Celtics at Miami Heat

Celtics – Not Yet Submitted

The Celtics were at full strength last night but Al Horford would be the player to watch. He has not played in both back-to-back games yet and that could happen again. Robert Williams has 1.03 fantasy points per minute with Horford off the court but the duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum get a bump as well. Brown is at 1.45 fantasy points per minute although his true shooting rate in the sample is 66.5% so that is a little unsustainable. If they elect to go smaller and play Dennis Schroeder as a starter (this is all hypothetical as it stands), Schroeder also has a 24.5% usage rate and 1.13 fantasy points per minute. This is a tougher matchup against the Heat, who sit first in defensive rating on the season.

Heat – Victor Oladipo – IR

Max Strus – Out

Strus is expected to miss a little while, but he does not play a significant role on the team, at least for fantasy.

Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns

Rockets – Daniel Theis – Questionable

Theis missed this past game and Alperen Sengun did become a starter and played 25 minutes around some foul trouble. It was not the best game ever, but the matchup could be quite different tonight. When Theis is off the floor, Sengun has had a 22.1% usage rate and 1.09 fantasy points per minute and remains affordable on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Update – Theis has been ruled out, which opens up Sengun to start again. This is a much more appealing game to start in for Sengun, especially if Phoenix is short one of their big men as well.

Suns – Deandre Ayton, Cameron Payne – Questionable

Payne could make it back for this game but is just the backup for Chris Paul and that will not cut it for fantasy most nights unless he hit about every shot he took. The Ayton portion of the injury report is more important. The last game saw JaVale McGee split time with Frank Kaminsky and they both paid off their salary. Kaminsky had better success in all aspects of the game and earned more time at 28 minutes while McGee played 19. On the year, McGee has a higher usage at 25.3% and fantasy points per minute at 1.22 than 19.2% and 1.12 for Kaminsky. Still, both would be in play and Kaminsky is still cheaper. It may just be a little difficult to predict who gets more time on the floor.

Latest NBA DFS Content

Oklahoma City Thunder at Los Angeles Lakers

Thunder – Luguentz Dort – Questionable

It would not appear that Dort is in significant danger of missing this game, despite his presence on the NBA Injury Report. He practiced in full on Wednesday and should be ready to return. When he missed this past game, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl started but only has a 12.7% usage rate and 0.74 fantasy points per minute.

Lakers – Anthony Davis, Wayne Ellington – Probable

LeBron James, Dwight Howard – Questionable

Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn – Out

There is not much changing for the Lakers because there is no reason to think James is in any danger of missing. He has been questionable and then plays 35 minutes per night. The only slight tweak is Howard. He has sat out the past two games, but that has not resulted in much extra work for DeAndre Jordan, who has only played 16 and 17 minutes. There is an argument that he could be in play as a punt since Oklahoma City is 30th in rebounds allowed in the paint but the opportunity cost at the center position could be steep.

Update – Well this situation changed in a major way because James is now out for tonight’s game. That puts Davis and Russell Westbrook front and center. Davis draws a matchup against a Thunder interior was mentioned as giving up rebounds galore in the paint. They are also 16th in paint points allowed and Davis is first in the league in paint touches. Both Davis and Westbrook have a usage rate around 33% and fantasy points per minute at 1.49, with Westbrook holding a slight edge.

One slight wrinkle in the situation is Ellington is likely playing tonight. While it is assumed that Malik Monk will start, he was playing well over 30 minutes in the previous games James missed. That could drop now that Ellington is back and Monk only has 0.58 fantasy points per minute in that sample. He needs every second of court time to pay off unless his shot is falling.
