🏀 NBA Daily Fantasy Lineup Rewind: Analyzing Last Night’s GPPs | Monday, 3/1

March started with a weird one. Joel Embiid was considered “very doubtful” but ended up starting, throwing a wrench in the plans of most, and especially 150-maxers. DraftKings’ main NBA Daily Fantasy GPP was the NBA $500K Finger Roll. $12 to enter, $100,000 to first. This GPP only filled 85% of seats, meaning we had some rare overlay and DraftKings actually lost $2,720 by running this tournament. We had quite a few low-owned lineups in the top 10, which is unusual. Let’s get right into the NBA daily fantasy lineup review.

NBA Daily Fantasy DraftKings GPP Lineup Review | March 1

In this NBA DraftKings GPP, 41,440 total entries came from 13,905 different DFS players, 2,419 (17.4%) of which made a profit. There were 82.6% of DFS players who entered this GPP and lost money.

The Winner

Congratulations to clevelandforlife2017 for taking this GPP down with a 373. He entered 60 lineups, cashing 34 for a profit of $100,540.46. The winning lineup used all $50,000 salary and had a cumulative team ownership of 137.3%. The key in this lineup was value piece Nicolas Claxton, who supplied 30.25 fantasy points for $3,100 at 2.5% ownership. Paying up for the combination of James Harden, Nikola Jokic and LaMelo Ball forced value plays in all the other spots, and they all hit except for P.J. Dozier.

Salary and Ownership

Eight of the top 50 finishers used less than $49,700. Here are the top salaries used last night:

  • $50,000 | 50%
  • $49,900 | 24%
  • $49,800 | 12%
  • $49,700 | 6%
  • $49,600 | 3%

The most popular optimal lineup was played 67 times, using all $50,000 team salary and having a cumulative team ownership of 196.5%. This lineup scored a 273.25 and did not cash.

The 150-Maxers

Sixty-nine 150-maxers played last night, entering 10,350 lineups and making up 25% of entries in this tournament. Twenty-two made a profit, and nine cashed fewer than 20 lineups. All told, it was a poor showing for 150-maxers who topped out at 13th place with a 350.75. Ninth place went to someone with 149 lineups.

The most profitable 150-maxer was wicked_mumbles, who put up that 350.75 thanks to Luka Doncic, Jokic and Bojan Bogdanovic. He cashed 78 out of that ammo box of 150 (instead of a single bullet, right?) for a profit of $2,943.49.

Miscellaneous

Boom of the slate goes to Carmelo Anthony, who put up 51.25 fantasy points (9.9x) for $5,200 at 3.4% ownership. Bust of the slate easily goes to P.J. Washington, who was the Boom of the Slate yesterday. Washington mustered up 9.75 fantasy points at $6,200 for the 48.1% of lineups that rostered him.

One hundred thirty-nine lineups were reserved and not played. The lowest-owned lineup that cashed (min-cashed) featured cumulative team ownership of only 25.8% and was actually played thrice by the same player:
