NBA Daily Fantasy Picks: Awesemo Grades | Dec. 29

*Grades are ordered DraftKings, FanDuel. Initial grade indicates a player’s strength of output, with the value grade indicating their strength as a play in relation to their salary.

C JaVale McGee — Grades: B, B | Values: A, A

Deandre Ayton entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Monday and will be out tonight. Frank Kaminsky also remains out with a knee injury. This means JaVale McGee is again starting and playing as many minutes as he can handle. He also has a solid matchup tonight against the Thunder. McGee had foul troubles last game, fouling out after 22 minutes. Tonight, however, he is projected for 26.5 minutes. Awesemo also lists him as the top overall value play on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

SG Jordan Clarkson — Grades: B, B | Values: A, A

Donovan Mitchell is out with a back injury tonight. With him out, Utah needs others to fill the large hole on the offensive end of the floor left in his absence. Sixth man Jordan Clarkson answered the call, seeing a larger role last game without Mitchell. Clarkson scored 23 points in 32 minutes. He added eight rebounds, five assists and two steals to give him a great NBA fantasy play. Facing the Trail Blazers tonight, Awesemo projects Clarkson to play 29.8 minutes and lead the team in scoring.

C Isaiah Roby — Grades: C, C | Values: A, A

For a salary saver, Isaiah Roby is as cheap as it gets. The Thunder are shorthanded, especially in their frontcourt. They will be without Derrick Favors, Darius Bazley and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, as they were last night. Roby ended up starting for Oklahoma City, playing 22 minutes. He should fill a similar role tonight against the Suns, who will be without Ayton, making the matchup a bit easier for him. Awesemo’s projections list Roby as the second-best overall value play on DraftKings tonight and the third-best value play on FanDuel.

PF Larry Nance Jr. — Grades: B, B | Values: A, A

Portland has both Jusuf Nurkic and Robert Covington in the league’s health and safety protocols, leading to Larry Nance Jr. seeing a large role tonight. He has started the past several games for Portland anyways, but his playing time rose to 32 minutes without both Nurkic and Covington in the rotation last game. Awesemo projects him to see even more playing time tonight, listing him at 34.6 minutes against Utah. The projections also have Nance flirting with a double-double in tonight’s game, with him projected for nearly 10 rebounds.
