NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Boom Candidates

Bradley Beal vs. Timberwolves: $9,500/$9,400

32.6% DraftKings Boom/40.8% FanDuel Boom

This is the tail end of a back-to-back so I expect Russell Westbrook to rest. The Wizards are off to a terrible start which might force them to change plan, but Scott Brooks said prior to the season that Russ would rest in back-to-backs this season. Yesterday, he told the media that Westbrook is not expected to play today. As long as this is the case, Beal is in a great spot against the Timberwolves. Both of these teams rank top-10 in pace and Beal is going to have to take on a heavy amount of usage without Westbrook in the lineup.

D’Angelo Russell vs. Wizards: $7,500/$7,500

33.2% DraftKings Boom/37.8% FanDuel Boom

I like Russell for most of the same reason I like Beal. DLO is going to have to see extra usage going forward since Karl-Anthony Towns is dealing with a wrist injury. Russell sports a 29.7% usage rating this season with Towns off the court and the Wizards are likely the most fantasy friendly defense to go up against. They are third in the league in pace and bottom five in defensive efficiency. I am hoping this game shoots out and the 233.5 total suggests it will. There is added correlation by making lineups with Russell and Beal together, which is something I plan on doing quite a bit.

Brandon Clarke vs. Hornets: $5,100/$4,800

17.9% DraftKings Boom/34.7% FanDuel Boom

Since Ja Morant is out for a while with a significant ankle sprain, there is a bit void to fill in the Grizzlies’ offense. Frankly, this is a catastrophe for their playoff odds. Memphis was a fringe playoff team entering the season and I doubt it can recover from a few weeks without Morant. There isn’t margin for error in a deep Western Conference. The Grizzlies got smoked in their first game without Morant against the Celtics. The good news for Clarke is that he was on pace to play a season-high in minutes last game if not for the blowout. He was also leaned on for a season-high 24.5% usage. It looks like a bigger role is in store for Clarke until Morant is healthy again.

NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Bust Candidates

Chris Paul vs. Nuggets: $7,400/$6,800

41.6% DraftKings Bust/40.3% FanDuel Bust

I am wary of rostering veterans on the tail end of back-to-backs this season. This is a condensed season with more travel and less rest than we have ever seen. I expect that Paul will get rested in some of these situations, but even if he plays, his minutes could get muted. Paul has plenty left in the tank and is still an All-Star caliber player although I am a little concerned about his fantasy production playing alongside Devin Booker. The two guards could cut into each other’s fantasy output a little bit this season. CP3 is playing under 30 minutes per game and his 22.2% usage rating is his lowest mark in 10 years.
