In NBA DFS and daily fantasy basketball as a whole, it is not as simple as rostering who we think the best play is. We have to consider the odds each individual player has of going off or busting. NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Boom Candidates

Nikola Jokic vs. Thunder: $11,500/$11,000

34.1% DraftKings Boom/33.3% FanDuel Boom

Jokic clearly has the most upside on the slate. In terms of options to pay up for, he’s the only choice. This is a positive and a negative. If Jokic puts up a massive game, he is almost certainly going to wind up on the optimal lineup. The issue is that this slate lacks value, making it hard to fit Jokic into lineups. This is always subject to chance, but as of now, I don’t have a lot of exposure to Jokic relative to the field. If a player or two gets ruled out to open up value than Jokic, and his upside becomes a more appealing option for my lineups.

Isaiah Roby vs. Nuggets: $4,500/$4,100

19.8% DraftKings Boom/17.9% FanDuel Boom

Roby profiles as the best value play on the slate. This says more about the state of the options than it does about Roby himself. Starting in place of Al Horford, he is producing decent fantasy results. In three starts this season, Roby is averaging 28.33 DraftKings points. Horford is out for personal reasons, opening the door for Roby to play extended minutes again. Roby’s price is up, but he is still a strong option for this slate since there are so few cheap options that we can expect to play extended minutes.

NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Bust Candidates

Mike Conley vs. Pelicans: $7,600/$6,800

59% DraftKings Bust/67.3% FanDuel Bust

Conley is playing well as of late, but I don’t like the increase in salary. Particularly on FanDuel, he is much too expensive. Playing against the Pelicans last season was an easy matchup, which isn’t the case this season. After playing at one of the fastest paces in the league last season, New Orleans’ 25th in pace this season. The lack of possessions is hurting fantasy production for opponents. As for Conley, we also have to consider that Joe Ingles could return. After missing time because of Achilles soreness, Ingles is questionable to play. If active, he takes away some ball handling and playmaking duties from Conley.
