Welcome back to another slate review. Over the last 35 slates, the biggest first-place split we had seen was 98, followed by 62, 52 and 40. Two-thirds of those GPPs were split less than 10 ways. We had an interesting one last night with Dwight Howard getting the start over JaVale McGee.

NBA DFS DraftKings Showdown Review | Lakers vs. Nuggets Game 4
Last night in the DraftKings NBA Showdown $500,000 Thursday Shootaround ($100,000 to first, $20 to enter), 335 players split first place for an $812 payout each. The winning lineup scored a 237.88 and won by two points:
Second-place finishers received $72.09 on their $20 entry fee for having the second-best lineup possible out of 29,411 entries. The winning lineup used a salary of $49,500 and had a team ownership percentage (TO%) of 221.4% with Jamal Murray at Captain:
Since I have been tracking these slates, this is the third-highest TO% we have seen take down a GPP while team salary was in the mid-low range at $49,500. What an interesting difference in NBA Showdown slates we are seeing right now with the chalky Lakers – Nuggets series and the much more open Showdown slates of the Celtics – Heat series.
Boom of the night goes to Dwight Howard, who put up 30.75 points (8.5x for $3,600 at 31%). Howard was owned 6.5% in the Captain spot, and for a while I thought you were going to need him, but Murray at Captain actually won the day. Bust goes to Nikola Jokic, who put up 35.25 points (2.9x for $12,000 at 46.7%. Jokic was owned 12.7% in the Captain spot. Shout out to Gary Harris, though, who scored eight points for 1.9x for $4,200 @23.4%.
P.J. Dozier once again provided zero fantasy points to the 8.1% that rostered him.
The GPP last night was 29,411 entries, 10,596 entrants, 2,570 (24.3%) of whom made money. This is a lot more profitable players than we usually see. Due to the chalkiness of the profitable lineups, no player made more than $1,900 in this GPP.
The 150-Maxers
We had 45 150-maxers, making up 21% of the field. Just like yesterday, only one made money, profiting $1,400 with two first-place finishes. Thirty of 45 150-maxers cashed fewer than 25 lineups, and 10-of-45 cashed 10 or fewer. The bottom three 150-maxers combined to cash eight lineups.
The most popular lineup was played 481 times, which is a lot lower than I was expecting. It also had a TO% higher than the winner, which is interesting. The most popular lineup was a two-vs-two away from the optimal and min-cashed with a 214.63:
Only 348 entries played had a higher TO% than the winner, which is remarkable. However, where the field stumbled is salary. Over 20,000 entries (70%) used a salary of $49,600 or higher, while the winning team salary was $49,500.
Tonight, we have the Celtics – Heat again, which makes for a more interesting Showdown slate in my book.
