Greg Ehrenberg uses Awesemo's Boom/Bust projection tool for the best NBA DFS picks for DraftKings + FanDuel daily fantasy plays | 2/8/21

For Tuesday night, there are only three NBA games on tap, and below are some of my favorite NBA daily fantasy picks for both FanDuel and DraftKings based on Awesemo’s grades and values.

NBA Daily Fantasy Picks: Awesemo Grades | Jan. 26

Power Forward: Marcus Morris

DraftKings Grades: C, Values: A

FanDuel Grades: C, Values: A

The Clippers will be understaffed tonight with both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George out due to COVID-19 protocols and Patrick Beverley sidelined with a knee injury. DraftKings was quick to adjust most of the Clippers’ salaries in the wake of this news, but they inexcusably left Morris at a low $4,700. The veteran should start at power forward and soak up a ton of usage with Los Angeles missing their pair of superstars. When all three of George, Leonard and Beverley have been off the floor this season, Morris has led the Clippers with a 27.8% usage rate.

If you have been following Morris throughout his NBA career, you are well aware of his selfish style of play. He feeds off extra opportunities like tonight, and while his tendencies may not always lead to wins for his team, Morris’ gunner mentality is perfect for fantasy purposes. If we look at his last 20 contests that the former Celtic has handled at least 20 minutes and a usage above 20%, the forward is producing 28.2 DraftKings points per game. At first glance his matchup for Tuesday against the Hawks appears to be difficult, with them ranking sixth in defensive efficiency this season, but they may be without starting center Clint Capela (questionable, hand) for the second straight game. Capela has been the key to their defense this season, and with him out Sunday, the Bucks exposed the Hawks for 129 points. Nevertheless, Morris is extremely underpriced on both DraftKings and FanDuel, and he will be one of my core plays for this short slate.

Projected NBA DFS ownership projection: DraftKings 64.5%, FanDuel 40.0%

Latest NBA DFS Content

Center: DeMarcus Cousins

DraftKings Grades: A, Values: A

FanDuel Grades: A, Values: A

The recent increases in Cousins’ salaries on FanDuel and DraftKings weren’t enough, and the center remains a free square on both sites. Christian Wood (doubtful, ankle) is not expected to be available for the third straight game, and as his replacement in the Rockets’ starting five, Cousins has put up some huge numbers with 47.25 DraftKings points per game. These two contests were a back-to-back set for Houston, and despite some major injuries over his career, Cousins hasn’t be limited in anyway, logging 31.5 minutes per game.

His usage has been at a team-high 30.1%, and the Rockets are matching up with a Wizards defense that ranks second-to-last in efficiency. This club is currently decimated with five rotation players out due to health concerns, and Houston is slated for the most points of the night (118.25 implied team total). Cousins should abuse Robin Lopez for a minimum of 35 fantasy points, and he should be the first player we put in our lineups on Tuesday.

Projected NBA DFS ownership projection: DraftKings 88.1%, FanDuel 54.7%

Shooting Guard: Alec Burks

DraftKings Grades: C, Values: B

FanDuel Grades: C, Values: A

Burks entered the starting lineup with Reggie Bullock (neck) out Sunday and finished with 32 DraftKings points across 27 minutes against the Blazers. The pure scorer is now averaging 1.1 DraftKings points per minute in a Knicks uniform and 29.5 DraftKings points per game when he has logged at least 25 minutes this year. Bullock has already been ruled out for Tuesday, presumably keeping Burks with the first unit tonight against the Jazz.

By no means is this a plus spot for him, with Utah ranking third in defensive efficiency this season, but Burks played his first seven years in the NBA with the Jazz, and they are actually at their weakest against shooting guards. Believe in revenge narratives or not, Burks is scoring 31.4 DraftKings points per game in his last three meetings with his former team, and he should be able to grind out value tonight with the starting role.

Projected NBA DFS ownership projection: DraftKings 21.1%, FanDuel 15.5%

Shooting Guard: Lou Williams

DraftKings Grades: B, Values: B

FanDuel Grades: C, Values: B

Speaking of revenge, Williams will be visiting his old home of Atlanta tonight to face the Hawks. Unlike Morris, Williams’ price tags on DraftKings and FanDuel were properly adjusted for life sans Leonard and George. Plus, he has been ineffective as of late, supplying fewer than 20 fantasy points in seven of his past 10. So why should we be considering Williams tonight? Well, these factors should result in low ownerships for him, and he was the main player to step up last season when Leonard and George were out collectively.

In the three contests the Clippers played without their two stars last season, Williams posted a team-high 36.3% usage rate and contributed 39.3 DraftKings points per game. His floor isn’t the safest, but Williams clearly has upside in this scenario and is the type of gamble we need to take in GPPs for this small, three-game slate.

Projected NBA DFS ownership projection: DraftKings 21.7%, FanDuel 19.6%
