Prime Time Players

Hassan Whiteside: Portland Trail Blazers vs. Detroit Pistons

DraftKings $9,700, FanDuel $9,000, Yahoo $40; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 31.9%, FanDuel 60.7% Yahoo 67.2%

We certainly are not going to be alone in targeting Hassan Whiteside in the late-night hammer. There are no real premium options in the player pool today outside of Nikola Jokic, who is a fine pivot away from Whiteside if you are looking to be different than the field.

In his 52 games this season, Whiteside has notched a double-double in 42 of them. Currently he is third in the league with 14.0 rebounds per game and he leads the league with 3.1 blocks per appearance. As a bonus, he will not have to battle anyone on Detroit for rebounds.

Good Value

Malik Beasley: Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets

DraftKings $5,800, FanDuel $5,200, Yahoo $19; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 19.7%, FanDuel 18.1% Yahoo 25.0%

This is the second time this week that Malik Beasley has found himself in this article series. He has started all four games since joining the Timberwolves and his field goal attempt totals of 18, 25, 12 and 19 demonstrate a new baseline of production. D’Angelo Russell (rest) has been ruled out for tonight’s action and it would be a surprise if Beasley does not top 20 field goal attempts.

For those of you who love narratives, this will be Beasley’s first trip back to Denver since being traded to Minnesota. With a little luck, he should reach 40 fantasy points tonight in the Pepsi Center. Juancho Hernangomez is also an intriguing option facing his former team tonight and he has been averaging about a fantasy point per minute for the T’Wolves.

Eric Paschall: Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Pelicans

DraftKings $4,400, FanDuel $4,200, Yahoo $12; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 31.1%, FanDuel 23.5% Yahoo 44.2%

Draymond Green (pelvis) will not be suiting up tonight. That should open up minutes and rebounding opportunities for Eric Paschall. In his last four spot starts, Paschall is averaging 34.5 minutes with 15.5 field goal attempts, 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 combined blocks and steals for 0.9 fantasy points per minute. This is not a sexy play, but it is a nice foundational piece for our lineups.

Risky Value

Jordan McLaughlin: Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets

DraftKings $4,300, FanDuel $4,000, Yahoo $10; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 17.7%, FanDuel 18.5% Yahoo 27.8%

Rookie Jordan McLaughlin should draw the start for the resting D’Angelo Russell in Denver tonight. The price, minutes and his performance in his last spot start are most definitely intriguing. Just keep in mind he played 37.0 minutes with 24 points, 4.0 rebounds and 11 assists in that game while shooting 73.3%. In his two seasons in the G-League, he has averaged 15.6 points and 5.2 assists per game.

Currently, McLaughlin is on a two-way contract with the Timberwolves. In his 20 NBA games this season, he is averaging 18.8 minutes per appearance with 0.9 fantasy points per minute. The main note of caution here is that we do not have much of a sample size and he appears to be destined for a career as a journeyman combo guard at the back end of the rotation.

We can absolutely play him in our cash lineups tonight, but there is a high boom/bust risk if we want to go elsewhere in tournaments if his popularity continues to grow throughout the afternoon.

Damian Lee GSW vs. NOP – $15

Jordan Poole GSW vs. NOP – $11

Gary Trent Jr POR vs. DET – $10

NBA DFS Picks: SuperDraft

C.J. McCollum: Portland Trailblazers vs. Detroit Pistons- 1.55x multiplier

Malik Beasley: Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets – 1.75x multiplier

Lonzo Ball: New Orleans Pelicans at Golden State Warriors – 1.45x multiplier

Our standout SuperDraft recommendations for today include what should be a wildly popular C.J. McCollum, who averages 1.15 fantasy points per minute without Damian Lillard on the court. Malik Beasley, who was detailed above, and Lonzo Ball are also standout plays. I really like Ball with his 1.45 multiplier in this format. Now that he is healthy and has a steady role his last eight starts, he is averaging 36.2 minutes per game with 13.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 2.25 combined blocks/steals with 2.9 made 3-point attempts. Keep in mind that blocks and steals are worth three points on SuperDraft and 3-pointers also have a 0.5 bonus.

Final Thoughts

This should be an interesting slate with a lack of marquee options. It is days like these that we want to trust our projections and look for hidden upside potential because there are not that many “stars” for a stars-and-scrubs build.

Be sure to tune into Live Before Lock at 5 p.m. EST to see what Fast Eddie Fear has to say about the matchups.
