Prime Time Players
Trae Young: Atlanta Hawks at Memphis Grizzlies
DraftKings $10,400, FanDuel $9,900, Yahoo $48; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings TBA%, FanDuel TBA% Yahoo TBA%
Over their last ten games the Memphis Grizzles are playing at the fifth fastest pace and the Atlanta Hawks are sixth. Though the Grizzlies defensive efficiency has improved, they are still allowing 109.4 points per 100 possessions in this same time frame. In the seven games since the All-Star Break, Trae Young is averaging 36.7 minutes and 1.5 fantasy points per minute. The numbers are quite impressive with 31.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 11.3 assists, 1.0 combined blocks/steals and 3.2 made three-pointers. This game has a 241.0 projected point total which should provide fantasy gold.
Jonas Valanciunas: Memphis Grizzlies at Atlanta Hawks
DraftKings $6,800, FanDuel $7,200, Yahoo $26; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings TBA%, FanDuel TBA% Yahoo TBA%
With injuries to Jarren Jackson Jr and Brandon Clarke, the Grizzlies have had to give Jonas Valanciunas 30+ minutes each of the last two games. JoVal has clearly risen to the challenge with back to back 20+ rebound performances. This season Valanciunas has topped 30+ minutes eleven times and in those games he is averaging 47.3 fantasy points and 1.5 fantasy points per minute. The baseline numbers are 31.5 minutes, 18.1 points, 16.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 combined blocks and steals. Today’s price tag is a steal across the board.
Elfrid Payton: New York Knicks vs. Houston Rockets
DraftKings $6,700, FanDuel $6,300, Yahoo $25; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings TBA%, FanDuel TBA% Yahoo TBA%
Elfrid Payton does not have very exciting game logs having missed a few outings with an ankle injury and then not getting many shots up in two of his last three appearances. Sometimes we want to take a look at the current matchup and see what could potentially change. Payton missed the contest between these two squads last Monday when Dennis Smith Jr. cruised his way to 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a whopping seven steals with 12 field goal attempts in 29.5 minutes. Tonight the Knicks will be without DSJ so we should easily see 32-34 minutes from Payton. In the 21 games he has hoisted double digit field goal attempts, Payton is averaging 35 fantasy points in 30.9 minutes. This is exactly the type of game where Payton would easily be flirting with a triple-double so it will be interesting to see his popularity with today’s price tag.
Tyus Jones: Memphis Grizzlies at Atlanta Hawks
DraftKings $5,600, FanDuel $5,000, Yahoo $16; Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings TBA%, FanDuel TBA% Yahoo TBA%
This is definitely going to be a game to stack, but just be careful with your player mix. Tyus Jones has graduated from being Ja Morant’s direct backup to playing 4-6 minutes with him over the last handful of games. The bad news is that he has not topped 22 minutes since before Christmas. For him to be a successful play tonight, something will need to befall Morant. Other groups would be to play only one of Jonas Valanciunas and Gorgui Dieng and no more than two of Josh Jackson, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson.
Yahoo Fantasy NBA DFS Discount Dandies
- Rudy Gay: SAS vs. IND – $11
- De’Anthony Melton: MEM at ATL – $12
- Trey Lyles: SAS vs. IND – $14
NBA DFS Picks: SuperDraft
- Jonas Valanciunas: Memphis Grizzlies at Atlanta Hawks – 1.35x multiplier
- Elfrid Payton: New York Knickerbockers vs. Houston Rockets – 1.50x multiplier
- Nikola Vucevic: Orlando Magic vs. Portland Trailblazers – 1.25x multiplier
Our standout SuperDraft recommendations for today include Jonas Valanciunas and Elfrid Payton who are discussed in detail above. The third targeted option is Nikola Vucevic who has a solid history against Hassan Whiteside. The last two times these behemoths battled in the paint, Vucevic has averaged 33.5 minutes with 23.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 5.0 combined blocks/steals.
We could have additional news that shakes the slate if Luka Doncic is able to return from his thumb injury and if Kristaps Porzingis sits out on this back to back.
Be sure to tune into the Deeper Dive and Live Before Lock shows beginning at 5 p.m. EST for all of your up-to-date information and analysis.
