NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks, Wednesday, June 9th

Yahoo Play of the Day — Chris Paul: Phoenix Suns vs. Denver Nuggets

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 37.32 | DraftKings: 38.32
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 60% | FanDuel 60% | DraftKings 48%
    DFS Salary: Yahoo $27 | FanDuel $13,500 | DraftKings $8,800

Chris Paul is an intriguing option today, and he is worthy of consideration in the multiplier slots for single-game contests. Phoenix is favored by 5.5 point, and there is a very real expectation that it will be heading to Denver on Friday with a 2-0 series lead. It seems that Paul’s shoulder issue is behind him, and other than an incredibly lopsided game in either direction, it is hard to imagine him with less than 35 minutes tonight. He has a reachable tournament target of 45 Yahoo fantasy points.

Nikola Jokic: Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 55.27 | DraftKings: 58.18
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 100% | FanDuel 100% | DraftKings 97%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $50 | FanDuel $15,000 | DraftKings $11,800

Nikola Jokic should be in nearly 100% of lineups tonight between the multiplier and non-multiplier roles. There is very little reason to fade Jokic, but as was the case with James Harden this weekend, all outcomes are in play.

Michael Porter Jr.: Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 35.55 | DraftKings: 37.26
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 60% | FanDuel 50% | DraftKings 56%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $28 | FanDuel $12,000 | DraftKings $7,800

Michael Porter Jr. is listed as questionable with a sore back. This has been something that has plagued him previously, so monitor his status moving forward. If he is starting, there is a little more comfort. However, if he is going to be available off the bench or only giving it a go as the starter, use this as an opportunity to move elsewhere and let other gamers assume this added risk.

Yahoo Daily Fantasy Basketball Discount Dandies

Denver Nuggets

  1. JaMychal Green, $10: Tallied a double-double in 23:09 for Game 1.
  2. Austin Rivers, $11: Likely will see 30-ish minutes between the two guard spots; heavily scoring dependent.
  3. Paul Millsap, $10: There are no points for name recognition; at some point this series he will post 20-plus fantasy points, just know he is averaging less than 12 minutes of court time in the last five games.

Phoenix Suns

  1. Torrey Craig, $10: Brought the energy and defense against his former team; should see 15 to 20 minutes and flirt with double-digit fantasy points. Monday was likely his apex performance of this series.
  2. Cameron Payne, $16: He has proven his value as a Paul backup and even earned a few minutes alongside him, but he knows his role is to keep the ball moving and play defense rather than look for his shot.
  3. Cameron Johnson, $10: The offensive version of Craig on a team that values defense; really needs mop-up duty to be a more than a dart throw.

Final Thoughts on the Wednesday, June 9th NBA DFS Slate

Have realistic expectations on the single-game slates, and while the giant tournaments are fun, the smaller-field contests can be lucrative with fewer lineup duplications. Keep in mind that salaries and scoring formats differ across the various fantasy sites, and a slam-dunk play on Yahoo may be a below-average NBA DFS pick on DraftKings or FanDuel.
