December 4 NBA DFS Pick: Damian Lillard
Now, Awesemo sets his sights on today’s NBA slate, with some seriously good matchups on several daily fantasy sites.
NBA DFS Pick: Damian Lillard ($8,100 DK, $9,100 FD) Grades: A, A; Values A, B
Lillard is the top guard play on the NBA DFS slate according to Awesemo’s projections. Today’s matchups seem to largely favor high-usage forwards, but Lillard stands out among the bigs thanks to a nice price on DraftKings, despite a less-than-ideal matchup. Lillard is priced below Trae Young, D’Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie on DraftKings largely due to his recent flux in production and opponent Sacramento’s 30th-ranked pace. Without De’Aaron Fox, the Kings have settled into a halfcourt-exclusive offense, which could inhibit Lillard’s upside a little bit.
Still, the Kings rank 19th in defensive rating and have overall poor guard defense, and without Fox, there is no one on Sacramento to force Lillard to expend energy on defense. That projects well for Lillard despite a relatively up-and-down run of late. In his last five games, Lillard is averaging 21.4 points on 41 percent shooting, but he is also adding 7.6 assists a game during that stretch.
Lillard has also seen his volume dip a bit with just one 20-shot game since his 19-33 on Nov. 8. Still, Lillard’s usage and efficiency are fairly high with a true shooting over 60 and usage of 28.3 percent. He is still a lethal scoring threat as long as he gets to the line where he is shooting 91.6 percent on 7.5 attempts per game. At this discounted price against a mediocre defense, Lillard and his superstar upside make a strong starting point for NBA DFS builds.
