NBA DFS Picks: Prime Time Players

Blake Griffin: Detroit Pistons vs. Charlotte Hornets

DraftKings $7,500, FanDuel $7,400, Yahoo $26 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 10.0%, FanDuel 21.1% Yahoo Fantasy 18.6%

This is a great matchup against the Hornets and we saw this same matchup in Charlotte on Wednesday night. Detroit has had 48 hours off and they do not play again until Sunday evening, so this is the perfect spot to roll with The Blake Show again. The Hornets have the lowest rebounding percentage in the league, so there should be plenty to go around for Andre Drummond and Griffin.

While the Hornets play at one of the slower paces in the league, they are sixth-worst allowing 110.4 points per 100 possessions. The Pistons have a healthy 110.5 implied point total so slot Griffin in for 29-31 minutes and enjoy.

NBA DFS Picks: Good Value

Furkan Korkmaz: Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks

DraftKings $3,300, FanDuel $3,500, Yahoo $10 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 25.5%, FanDuel 20.5% Yahoo Fantasy 2.1%

We know that Al Horford is getting the night off for rest and Josh Richardson is doubtful. Plus, the 76ers will be hosting Indiana tomorrow night. On Yahoo, I am not thrilled with this play for two reasons: 1) not all $10 players are created equal and 2) there is some softer mid-tier pricing tonight.

On DraftKings, FantasyDraft and FanDuel, Korkmanz is very interesting as he is near the minimum and fills a pesky shooting guard slot. While we do not know if he will start, he did slot in for Richardson in the last game. The Knickerbockers are not an imposing foe, but there is a chance rookie Matisse Thybulle draws the start. That is just fine because Korkmanz should still get his with the second unit and likely close out what should be a Philadelphia victory.

As for the rookie Thybulle, while I loved that he was a four-year player for my alma mater, the University of Washington, he is a risky option who has more than five field goal attempts only once this season

NBA DFS Picks: Risky Value

Chris Boucher: Toronto Raptors at Orlando Magic

DraftKings $3,900, FanDuel $3,700, Yahoo $10 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 20.9%, FanDuel 59.5% Yahoo Fantasy 2.6%

Look, if you want to chase some box scores then this is the play for you. My guess is that this drops significantly throughout the day as other spots continue to open up as news comes out today. The minutes are HEAVILY DEPENDENT on fourth quarter run, aka blowout time. In his last seven games, which dovetails with the absence of Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka, Boucher has surpassed 20 minutes only twice.

Toronto has won five in a row by an average of 17.6 points per game. They are currently four-point road favorites and Orlando is still without Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon, so there could be extra mop up duty. Caveat emptor, I still think there will be better spots to turn tonight.

FantasyCruncher Tip of the Day

Use promo code PRIMETIME to receive 50% off any one-month premium subscription (including FantasyCruncher options).

With the incredibly user-friendly FantasyCruncher, we can take our lineup construction to the next level.

Today, we will look at how to use the “random” feature and how it impacts projections. By going into the “Advanced Options > General Settings” we can set a global Randomness that will be applied to all players. In this case we will use 15%. This means that for each individual lineup that is produced by FantasyCruncher, each player will have their baseline projection randomized within a +/- 15% range.

So if our player had a projection of 20 points, FantasyCruncher would assign a range projection of 17-23 points. Again, this will occur with each different lineup that is created and with each player.

For those of you with FC Pro, you have a second option. The “Normal Dist Randomness” calculation will actually follow a standard deviation bell curve approach. This keeps the variations in a more realistic set of parameters. This can also be set by each play via the data upload process.

Final Thoughts

Though there are only four games on Saturday, Atlanta, Charlotte, Indiana, Milwaukee and Philadelphia are all playing back-to-backs.
