NBA DFS Picks: Prime Time Players

Donovan Mitchell: Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Lakers

DraftKings $7,100, FanDuel $8,000, Yahoo $30 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 33.9%, FanDuel 34.9% Yahoo Fantasy 39.6%

Mike Conley is out tonight with a sore hamstring, so that should put the ball in Mitchell’s hands more often than it already has been this season.

My guess is that the secondary facilitation duties will be shared by Emmanuel Mudiay and Joe Ingles. The main question will be who draws the start between the two. The three ball handlers will need to be staggered and I would expect Ingles to get the nod over Mudiay if the game is close down the stretch, regardless of which player starts.

Mitchell is in the midst of another solid season and he has not been impacted by the Ricky Rubio/Mike Conley switch. In an interesting twist, Mitchell’s 13 minutes per game without Conley actually see him with a neutral 30.1 to 30.2 usage change, an uptick in rebounding but a decrease in offensive efficiency from 112.6 to 95.8. This is just a 21-game sample size and will not be influencing me.

There is a chance we see Anthony Davis get a break on this back-t0-back as he has been playing through a sore shoulder and the Lakers next play on Friday, Sunday and Wednesday. Davis has missed only one game this season which was a beat down of Golden State on a back-to-back Nov. 13.

Utah and Los Angeles are both playing at the 16th-highest pace with 102.9 possessions per 48 minutes. They are also the eighth and best defensive teams, respectively. The ball should be in the hands of the key players, so I am not worried about this tonight.

Not to bury the lead, Ingles and Mudiay are in play as secondary value options with their increased role.

NBA DFS Picks: Good Value

Tomas Satoransky: Chicago Bulls vs. Memphis Grizzlies

DraftKings $5,200, FanDuel $5,800, Yahoo $13 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 15.9%, FanDuel 5.9% Yahoo Fantasy 24.5%

This is more of a DraftKings and Yahoo play. The Bulls have a nice matchup tonight against a depleted Memphis squad. Coach Jim Boylen is very much on the hot seat and has lost the locker room. Over the last three games, Satoransky has averaged 33-ish minutes.

We know that it is all about the shot volume for his success. On the season, Memphis is playing at the sixth-fastest pace and is a bottom-10 team defensively. Tonight should see ample assist and scoring opportunities for the former Wizard.

Over on FanDuel, Kris Dunn is the alternative to Satoranksy for the $1,300 savings.

NBA DFS Picks: Risky Value

D’Anthony Melton: Memphis Grizzlies at Chicago Bulls

DraftKings $4,600, FanDuel $4,400, Yahoo $12 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 1.0%, FanDuel 1.0% Yahoo Fantasy 1.0%

It is my belief that D’Anthony Melton will gain traction as a value play throughout the day. He has back-to-back 30-plus-fantasy-point games and we know that Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke will be on the shelf for a while. It will be Tyus Jones likely drawing the start again with Melton serving as his direct backup. This duo has a decent chance of sharing the court in the fourth quarter.

Melton was a second-round draft pick by the Rockets in 2018, but he was traded to the Suns as part of the Ryan Anderson for Marquese Chriss and Brandon Knight deal. He was moved this off season to Memphis as part of a cap-clearing effort. While he is more known for his defense, if Tyus Jones continues his lackluster play, Melton is next in line.
