Boom/Bust NBA Daily Fantasy Projections & Picks Today

Boom: Donovan Mitchell: $8,600 DraftKings/$8,100 FanDuel

31.2% DraftKings Boom/30.3% FanDuel Boom

The Utah Jazz will forever be remembered as the team Gregg Popovich beat to set the all-time wins record for a head coach. The Jazz lost to the Spurs on the road last night by two points, but Donovan Mitchell had another solid game as he finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Mitchell has really been impressive from long distance this season. He is averaging a career-high 3.5 made 3-pointers per game, which ranks third in the league. The 3-point shot has boosted Mitchell’s upside as he has the third-highest boom percentage on DraftKings and fourth-highest on FanDuel, according to our NBA DFS Boom/Bust Tool. He also has the second-highest usage rate on the slate behind Giannis Antetokounmpo. The matchup against the Kings is helps the upside as well.

The Jazz are 10-point home favorites tonight, which is the largest number on the slate. They are implied for a slate-high 120.75 points as we know most of the points will be coming from Mitchell. The Jazz’s second leading scorer Bojan Bogdanovic is out, which will provide more opportunity for Mitchell. Last game he had 23 field goal attempts, which was the second-most he has had since the All-Star Break. Mitchell is actually tied with DeMar DeRozan on this slate for most field goal attempts with 20.2 per game. The Kings rank 28th in defensive rating and seventh in pace, allowing 115.2 points per game which ranks second-highest in the league. At his reasonable salary, Mitchell comes in with a top three NBA ownership projection on both DraftKings and FanDuel. He is a staple for cash games.

Boom: Josh Richardson: $3,600 DraftKings/$3,700 FanDuel

27.2% DraftKings Boom/26.0% FanDuel Boom

As of right now, value is tough to come by on this seven-game NBA daily fantasy slate. The best value play for both DraftKings and FanDuel is Josh Richardson, according to our Awesemo NBA projections. The newly acquired Spurs wing has started in two of their last three games and has performed really well. In those two games that Richardson started, he is averaging 14.5 points and 26.1 DraftKings points while playing 32 minutes per game. We project Richardson to start and play a modest 27.7 minutes. The Spurs have several questionable wings in Doug McDermott, Josh Primo and Romeo Langford. Monitor the starting lineup, but if Richardson is in it, he is a fantastic value.

This Spurs and Pacers game has the largest total on the slate at 234.5 points as the Spurs are five-point home favorites. They have won two of their last three home games as they are in the middle of a seven-game home stand. The Spurs are one game back of the last playoff spot, so every game from here on out is very meaningful. They also got the monkey off their back with the Popovich victory last night. Richardson has shown upside with his 3-point shot. In seven total games with the Spurs, he is averaging 50% from behind the arc. Richardson is a really solid leverage play on this slate, just make sure he is in the starting lineup before deploying him.

Boom: Nikola Jokic: $12,100 DraftKings/$11,600 FanDuel

21.4% DraftKings Boom/29.2% FanDuel Boom

It feels like immediate value whenever Nikola Jokic is not the highest-priced player on the slate. Despite being second to Giannis Antetokounmpo in price, Jokic leads him in our NBA DFS Boom/Bust Tool as he has the highest boom percentage on DraftKings tonight. Value is bleak at the moment, but more usually opens up throughout the day which will make it much easier to fit in Jokic. After a mediocre start post All-Star Break, Jokic is certainly back now. In three of his last four games, Jokic has topped 75 or more DraftKings points. During this last stretch he is averaging a massive triple-double with 34.8 points, 14.3 rebounds, and 10 assists per game. His scoring has really increased as well as his minutes played. With Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. still out, it is the Jokic show.

The Nuggets get a home matchup against the Raptors where they are 5.5-point favorites. The Raptors will do their best to slow this game down as they have the fifth-slowest pace in the league. They are in the middle of the pack offensively and defensively, but simply don’t have the size to battle with Jokic in the paint. In their previous matchup which was a month ago today, Jokic went for 28 points and 15 rebounds while shooting 10-for-16 from the field. He seems to reach a higher ceiling than Giannis when he has a boom performance. Jokic has the top two fantasy games this season where he had 93 and 95 DraftKings points. He is the top option on the slate.

Jokic was one of the most popular players showing up in the NBA DFS lineup optimizer today. For all of our free NBA DFS picks today, check out the DraftKings NBA Cheat Sheet and FanDuel NBA Cheat Sheet.

Bust: Karl-Anthony Towns: $10,600 DraftKings/$9,400 FanDuel

61.0% DraftKings Bust/48.40% FanDuel Bust

It was surprising that Karl-Anthony Towns didn’t see much of a price decrease for this matchup against the Heat, especially on DraftKings. The Timberwolves are coming off a bad loss against the Magic last night and now get a very difficult task against the Heat tonight. Towns has had another solid season, minus the rebounding. He is averaging a career-low 9.8 rebounds per game which has limited his upside on DraftKings with the double-double bonus. The Timberwolves are fully healthy now which also limits the upside of Towns. D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards have shown the ability to have big games, but this all comes down to the matchup.

The Heat are incredible against opposing centers. They lead the league in points allowed in the paint with only 40.6 per game. Bam Adebayo and P.J. Tucker are incredible defenders. As a team the Heat rank fifth in defensive rating, allowing 104.7 points per game. In their previous meeting, the Timberwolves won 113-101 but Towns only had 11 points and six rebounds as he shot 4-of-12 from the field and 1-of-5 from behind the arc. In our NBA DFS Rankings, it is quite obvious how poor of a play Towns is tonight as he has a D Value on DraftKings and C on FanDuel, which is the worst among the high-priced players. No need to play Towns in this brutal matchup.
