The 76ers look to climb out of an early hole against the Hawks tonight. Game 1 didn’t go Philly’s way but there were positive signs to take away from the game that will impact tonight’s Game 2, and we also have Game 1 of the Clippers vs. Jazz on this NBA fantasy slate. Joel Embiid was originally expected to miss the game with a torn meniscus, but he played and looked great. This makes him one of the top NBA DFS picks on FanDuel and DraftKings per the projections on the Awesemo NBA DFS Boom vs. Bust Tool.

NBA Fantasy Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Boom Candidates
Joel Embiid vs. Hawks: $10,000 DraftKings/$10,500 FanDuel
50.8% DraftKings Boom/31.3% FanDuel Boom
Embiid looked much better than expected in Game 1. Even though the 76ers lost the game, this wasn’t because of Embiid. Philadelphia outscored the Hawks by 13 when Embiid was on the court, and the game was lost due to bench play and a slow start. From a fantasy perspective, the most encouraging sign from Embiid was that he was allowed to play 38 minutes. This was more than anybody on the team played and was a pretty good indication that his health is OK. Embiid is officially listed as questionable to play tonight, but this isn’t much of a concern. He will likely end up getting listed as questionable for every game this series. He’s the top-projected player in the Awesemo NBA daily fantasy projections at 53.88 points — almost five full points ahead of the next-closest player.
Ivica Zubac vs. Jazz: $3,500 DraftKings/$4,100 FanDuel
9.2% DraftKings Boom/3.7% FanDuel Boom
This is a much lower boom rating than players typically covered in this column have. With that said, Zubac still has the best boom rating of any cheap option today. This shows how lacking in value tonight’s slate is. There is some reason for optimism when it comes to Zubac’s NBA fantasy value in this series compared to the series against the Mavericks. Los Angeles went really small against the Clippers, and this could present an issue going up against Rudy Gobert. Zubac could move back into the starting lineup ahead of Nicolas Batum, or at the very least, he appears in line to play more minutes than he played last series.

NBA Fantasy Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Bust Candidates
Nicolas Batum vs. Jazz: $4,600 DraftKings/$5,600 FanDuel
45.5% DraftKings Bust/74.4% FanDuel Bust
This correlates with what is written above. If Zubac is going to play a few extra minutes, that playing time is likely to come at the expense of Batum. Guys like Luke Kennard and Terance Mann could also get less run than the saw at the end of the last series against the Mavericks. There is also a premium to pay for Batum, particularly on FanDuel since his salary has risen quite a bit from strong fantasy performances against Dallas. This series presents a much tougher matchup. According to the Awesemo NBA daily fantasy projections, Batum is coming in as negative value play, which is further confirmation to go with a fade.
