NBA Yahoo Cup NBA DFS Picks | Round 15

NBA Fantasy Guard: Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors — $39

Golden State did play last night, but they have already ruled out Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green for this matchup with the Houston Rockets. Stephen Curry is sure to be popular since he is still under the $40 threshold on Yahoo, but the matchup is so enticing that the popularity is less important than playing Curry with his upside tonight.

With those three players off the court this season, Curry has a 31.6% usage rate and 1.30 Yahoo points per minute. That is appealing enough, but now he gets to unleash those metrics against the Rockets, who play at the fastest pace in the league and have the worst defensive rating. The Warriors are no slouches in pace either (12th), and the Rockets also give Curry an opportunity to hit a lot of 3-point shots tonight. They allow the fifth-most 3-point attempts this year and are up to a 42.8% frequency allowed. On top of the matchup from 3-point distance, Curry leads the league in points scored off a screen (4.9), while Houston allows the second-most points in that play type (5.6). This game has the second-highest total of the night, and Curry simply is not expensive enough in the NBA Yahoo Cup.

NBA Fantasy Forward: John Konchar, Memphis Grizzlies– $12

Another popular player, it is hard to ignore John Konchar at the small forward position, which is typically not the most exciting to fill. The Memphis Grizzlies are missing four rotation players tonight in Dillon Brooks, Tyus Jones, Kyle Anderson and Desmond Bane, and that opens up a lot of minutes for Konchar. He played 32 minutes in the last game in this exact scenario and almost hit 30 Yahoo points despite scoring just 6 real points.

In that game his usage rate was a paltry 11%, but his true shooting rate was 37.5% compared to 64.6% on the full season. When utilizing a player that is this cheap, it is nice to see they contribute in multiple categories and said player is not depending on scoring alone for his fantasy output. The Nuggets are just 15th in defensive rating as well, and Konchar is such a bargain that he will be hard to pass up, even in a large-field GPP such as the Yahoo Cup.

NBA Fantasy Center: Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets — $57

The most expensive player on the entire slate is not always going to be super popular, but Nikola Jokic continues his quest to capture a second straight MVP tonight against the Grizzlies. They are just 16th in points allowed in the paint, and Jokic is scoring 9.4 points per game in the paint, eighth most in the NBA. No player touches the basketball more times per game than Jokic (99.5), and he has 1.77 Yahoo points per minute without Michael Porter Jr., still out with a significant back injury.

Jokic averages almost 33 minutes per night and has one of the safest floors in the league, along with the highest ceilings. Expecting a repeat of his last game of almost 90 Yahoo points is not smart, but his average is nearly 60. Since Memphis plays at a top-10 pace, that should drag Denver up from their ranking of 25th, and that will help Jokic get to his ceiling tonight.

In addition to Jokic looking like a great play tonight for Yahoo lineups, the Awesemo projections have him slated for 14.5 rebounds tonight. The biggest bonus is some sportsbooks have this wager as an underdog, making it a stronger return on investment. His rebounds over/under NBA player prop is a great bet, which is sitting at over/under 12.5 tonight, and OddsShopper has an expected win rate of 71% when betting the over.
