NBA Yahoo Cup Fantasy Basketball Picks | Round 8

NBA DFS Guard: Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks — $49

It is always fun to anchor to one of the star players in the league and Doncic is that player tonight. He and the Mavericks take on the Pelicans in a rematch of a game that was played two nights ago. Doncic scored 48.8 Yahoo points in that game and played under 28 minutes because it was a blowout, scoring 28 real points and assisting on 14 field goals. What is also impressive is Doncic had eight turnovers, so it is not difficult to imagine him scoring 55-60 fantasy points tonight. New Orleans is now 30th in defensive rating on the season, and the play type data speaks to Doncic being an elite play.

Doncic is scoring the second-most points per game as the ball handler in the pick-and-roll play type, shooting 46.9% from the field. The Pelicans are dead last in points given up per game and points per possession defending that play type. There is a tangible reason Doncic was able to score so many points in so little court time last game, even past him shooting 11-for-16 from the floor. With Doncic not yet over the $50 threshold on Yahoo, he is one of the strongest plays on the board for this slate.

Being such an outstanding play on tonight’s slate, getting more action down on Doncic via NBA player props tonight might be worthwhile. Check out all of Awesemo’s NBA betting picks and best bets advice today.

NBA DFS Forward: Franz Wagner, Orlando Magic — $19

The Magic will face the  Rockets tonight, and anytime a team faces Houston they are on the DFS radar. The Rockets play at the fastest pace in the NBA, and they are just 17th in defensive rating. The Magic will be without guard Jalen Suggs tonight, and Wagner has been playing around 32 minutes in competitive games. His usage rate is at 18.8% without Suggs this season, which is not anything massive, but it is plenty for a salary under $20. The 3-point shot for Wagner has not been the main weapon, but he is shooting 36% and the Rockets will give him opportunities. They are 27th in frequency allowed for opponent’s shooting 3-point shots, and Wagner still has upside at this salary. In the NBA Yahoo Cup the upside is what is most important.

NBA DFS Center: LaMarcus Aldridge, Brooklyn Nets — $19

The Nets likely did not think Aldridge was going to have to play 30 to 32 minutes a night in most games but between injuries and other issues, that is where they are. The Timberwolves have questionable players tonight in Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, and the latter is very important. If Towns would sit, his matchup just amplifies. Even if he plays, the Timberwolves defense has a weak spot that Aldridge can exploit.

Minnesota allows the seventh-most points per possession defending the roll man in the pick-and-roll. The only reason they do not allow more points per game is because they have faced that play type at the fourth-fewest frequency in the league. Aldridge is second in points per game as the roll man and has the second-highest frequency among starting players in the NBA. Aldridge has a 23.3% usage rate and 1.08 fantasy points per minute this season for the Nets, and the salary is very cheap for the potential upside tonight.
