The NBA Slate Starter: NBA DFS Strategy for DraftKings + FanDuel | Thursday, 6/10

Wednesday was another extremely chalky slate, as Nikola Jokic worked out optimally on DraftKings with all three Suns studs in the flex. Fortunately, the Slate Starter article was all over Paul Millsap, although it was more a fluke he got there considering the only 12 minutes of court time it took to put up his 25.5 DraftKings points. Still, the logic was there, as any sort of limited Michael Porter Jr. could have led to even bigger results. Let’s get to some of the NBA DFS strategy and picks for DraftKings and FanDuel tonight.

How the Bucks Can Turn the Tide

For every captivating playoff series that lives up to the hype of its billing, there’s one like Bucks – Nets that quite simply does not. That is no fault of the Nets, who have been spectacular in the first two matchups despite losing James Harden one minute in. It certainly helps to have Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant there to pick up the slack, but it’s been performances like Mike James in Game 1, Bruce Brown Jr. in Game 2 and Blake Griffin in both that have led to surprise beatdowns of the Bucks.

Maybe a return to Milwaukee will be exactly what this team needs to regain their first-round form, as their sweep of the Heat feels like centuries ago at this point. And maybe Mike Budenholzer will magically learn to coach again in Game 3, as Steve Nash’s handling of Giannis AntetokounmpoJrue Holiday and Khris Middleton has been an obvious difference maker. Vegas thinks the Bucks are due for some positive regression, as the opening 3.5-point line in their favor is surprising to say the least for anyone who watched the first two iterations of this series.

But the key to turning this thing around seems pretty obvious after perusing the Bucks’ series stats on Basketball-Reference.com:

It is extremely hard in the modern game to win without making 3’s, and shooting 24.6% from deep while the other team is converting at a 44.4% clip is a recipe for disaster. And it’s not like the Bucks are short on marksman outside of Holiday and Middleton, as Brook Lopez is a dependable shooter and Bryn Forbes is capable of making a massive difference. In fact, Forbes was the main catalyst in their evisceration of the Heat in Games 2 through 4, as his remarkable 21-for-40 (52.5%) 3-point shooting turned the tide of the series.

With that in mind, if looking for that lower-owned play that no one’s on, Forbes has to be the guy. He makes a great addition to game stacks here, and game stacking is exactly what everyone should be looking at doing on a two-game slate where one sports a 234 total. Make sure to stay glued to Awesemo’s ownership projections throughout the day, as knowing which low-owned pieces to add to the obvious studs in this game will be the major key to this slate.
