The next part of the game occurs during live trading. Unlike regular NFL DFS, where your plays are locked in, you can buy and sell shares of players while the games are happening based on their production and where you could see them finishing amongst the field. Jock MKT NFL Picks for Week 1
Patrick Mahomes — QB — Kansas City Chiefs
Awesemo projects Patrick Mahomes as the top value on this NFL Week 1 Sunday slate, and it’s tough to argue. After being embarrassed in the Super Bowl, this entire Kansas City Chiefs team has been itching to get back on the field. This is a team that looks very motivated again, after looking disinterested much of the 2020 regular season. Add this in with playing in front of a packed Arrowhead crowd again, while also adding that the matchup with the Cleveland Browns could prove to be an important one come December, and Mahomes will likely put together a big performance.
Mahomes has a value of $11.77 in Awesemo’s projections. Should he finish as the top overall scorer, it would be a $13.23 profit per share. However, the profit per share drops to $8.23 if he finishes second, so be aware of the payouts for each ranking.
Adam Thielen — WR — Minnesota Vikings
This looks to be a great spot for Adam Thielen. The Minnesota Vikings are favored on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, who will be missing cornerback Trae Waynes. Most of the hype on Minnesota will likely go to receiver Justin Jefferson and running back Dalvin Cook. While both are phenomenal players, they will also receive the defense’s focus ahead of Thielen as well.
The main knock on Thielen heading into 2021 is touchdown regression. He scored 14 times last season. But after the injury to Irv Smith Jr., Thielen will continue to get plenty of red zone work. With the Vikings projected to be in the red zone quite a bit, the likelihood that Thielen begins the 2021 season with a touchdown looks to be high, especially given the injury to Waynes on Cincinnati.
Awesemo projects Thielen’s value to be at $3.59, and Jock MKT ranks him down at 18 on its list. All he needs is a touchdown to be a profitable play, but he should have a busy day regardless. Don’t sleep on Thielen in Week 1 and beyond.
Mike Davis — RB — Atlanta Falcons
Jock MKT has Mike Davis ranked all the way down at 108. This is too low for a player that is expected to be a bell cow for this team. Awesemo projects Davis’ value to be $3.38, so there is a lot of room for profit here.
The Atlanta Falcons play at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. There are many ways this game could go, but the Falcons getting blown out at home isn’t one. Atlanta could lead throughout, which would likely mean many carries for Davis. He should be seeing the red zone and goal line touches as well. So, if you think the Falcons can move the ball against the Eagles, which you should, then you must figure Davis will have many red zone opportunities. As a betting man, I’m willing to bet he finishes at least one run in the end zone, which should put him in green territory for you already.
This Eagles vs. Falcons game also has sneaky shootout potential. Going to the bargain bin to find Davis in this opportunity could mean big things.
