The Super Bowl has finally arrived, and it’s time to talk strategy for the big game. This piece will take a last-minute look at potential value plays, roster construction ideas and last-minute injury notes prior to kick off. With the Chiefs favored by a field goal in a game totaled at 55.5 points, fireworks should be in store for the single biggest sporting event of the year. Let’s get to the daily fantasy football picks for Super Bowl Sunday.
Daily Fantasy Football: Super Bowl Lineup Construction
Value Plays
Sammy Watkins — In his first game back since Week 16, Watkins enters the slate at $7,500 on FanDuel and $4,200 on DraftKings. Prior to the absence, Watkins payed on at least 75% of Kansas City’s snaps in five straight games. Over the course of the season, Watkins recorded a 14% target share. While Watkins hasn’t hit 100 yards receiving yet this year, he still has the upside to play every down in a Patrick Mahomes-led offense.
Ronald Jones — Losing his starting role to Leonard Fournette down the stretch, Jones enters the Super Bowl priced at $8,000 on FanDuel and $2,200 on DraftKings. Despite a limited roll in the pass game, Jones still handles change of pace duties for the Buccaneers. In each of their last two games, Jones handled 10 and 13 carries, respectively. While this still renders Jones touchdown dependent, he provides cheap touches on the Super Bowl slate.
Byron Pringle — Pringle played a surprisingly pivotal role in the conference championship for the Chiefs despite being more volatile than other options. While Watkins was inactive, Pringle played 52 snaps and ran 32 routes against the Bills. His 31 routes bested Demarcus Robinson (30), Mecole Hardman (17) and both running backs. With 8 combined targets in the last two games, Pringle provides a legitimate role at $6,000 on FanDuel and $1,800 on DraftKings.

Daily Fantasy Football Roster Construction
The Showdown game mode favors unique lineups. Keeping this idea in mind, a few strategies stand out on the Super Bowl slate.
Remaining Salary — One way to find unique lineups is leaving salary on the table. While these lineups likely will not project as well, they help lead to unique roster builds. Variance is set extremely high on single-game slate, so this can be a viable strategy in tournaments.
Onslaught — Stacking one side of a game can also lead to unique roster builds. This construction generally works in blowouts. It also helps maximize salary by playing a few value options. An example of this would be stacking Mahomes with Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Pringle and another value option. On the other side, running it back with a receiver makes the most sense.
Contrarian Captain — Quarterbacks generally carry the most ownership at the captain and MVP positions on DraftKings and FanDuel. With Tom Brady and Mahomes on the slate, that projects to be the case here. One way to gain leverage on the field is Captain a skill position player. While Hill and Kelce will carry ownership of their own, they still provide more leverage than a quarterback-Captain lineup. They also allow lineups to come in slightly more chalky because they leverage has already been gained in the captain slot.
Injury Notes
Kansas City — With Robinson and Daniel Kilgore cleared from COVID-19 protocols, the Chiefs enter this game with relative health. The Chiefs are also looking at a return from a multi-game absence from Watkins. Unfortunately for Kansas City, Mahomes lost Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz ahead of this game on the offensive line. On defense only linebacker Willie Gay will miss this contest.
Tampa Bay — The Buccaneers enter this contest at close to full strength. Antonio Brown practiced in full, as did Mike Evans and the other notable skill position players. Coming out of no where, Cameron Brate emerged on the injury report with a back injury on Thursday. Brate still practiced in limited fashion and should be ready come Sunday. On defense, Lavonte David, Jordan Whitehead, Antoine Winfield and Jason Pierre-Paul all turned in limited practices, putting them on track to play.
