 NFL DFS Picks: Quarterback

Matt Ryan: Grades: A, Values: A

According to Awesemo’s rankings, we’re not getting a lot of value at the top on this slate. Matt Ryan is one of only two skill position players with a double-A on FanDuel and DraftKings (the other, Drew Brees). Fortunately, unlike past weeks, we have a very clear double-stack option in this offence with Mohamed Sanu traded and Austin Hooper injured. Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones both saw 85% snap shares last week and are top-25 in routes run over the past two weeks. Matt Ryan still leads the NFL in pass attempts per game, though that number may go down in the coming weeks due to the Falcons improved defence. The Bucs are giving up the 3rd most points to opposing quarterbacks this season and Tampa owns the most pronounced pass funnel in the NFL this year: 1st in DVOA against the run, 30th against the pass. The only real issue with playing Ryan or stacking him, is ownership, so find pivots elsewhere.

NFL DFS Pick: Running Back

Miles Sanders: Grades: C, Values: A

Jordan Howard is listed as questionable this week, but did get in a limited practice on Friday, so we’ll have to wait and see about rostering Miles Sanders. Last week against a tough Patriots defence, Sanders tallied 47 yards on 12 touches and an 85% snap count. A fantasy bust, but the usage was there and the matchup against the Seahawks is much easier. As per Adam Pfeifer’s matchup column, Sanders is fifth in the NFL at 6.2 yards per touch this season, the fifth best mark in the NFL. The Seahawks have been middle of the pack at defending the running back position this year. Sanders is just too cheap across the industry this week to pass up, if Howard is out.

NFL DFS Pick: Wide Receiver

Julian Edelman: Grades: A, Values: B (Yahoo: A,A)

With Mohamed Sanu out and Phillip Dorsett questionable, the Patriots are suddenly thin at wide receiver. Cue up the Julian Edelman massive target game. Edelman already ranks 4th in the NFL in targets this season and hasn’t had less than 10 targets in a game since Week five — so the floor is about is good as your going to find this week. He’s a near lock on Yahoo at just $20. Edelman has been running routes in the slot had the 5th highest clip in the NFL this season. Cowboys slot corner Jourdan Lewis was great to start the year but has regressed a bit over the past few weeks, giving up 1.4 yards per snap and a 100.3 passer rating. This is a tough, but winnable matchup for Edelman.

NFL DFS Pick: Tight End

Vance McDonald: Grades: B, Values: A (B,C on FanDuel)

A quick crunch on Fantasy Cruncher using Awesemo’s projections gives you about a 90% share of Vance McDonald in most of your lineups. Now that’s maybe just a little high, but I’m definitely going to go overweight this week, especially with the Steelers so thin at WR with Juju Smith-Schuster out. Once again, it’s thin at the top at the tight end position, with no Evan Engram, Travis Kelce, Austin Hooper or Hunter Henry on the slate. It doesn’t get much better than a matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals and their 31st ranked defence against TEs. McDonald led all tight ends in Week 11 with a 96% snap count and 48 routes run. At his price point he’s one of the best values on the slate at any position and his ownership isn’t out of control – yet.
