NFL DFS Picks: Week 7 Monday Night Football | Bears at Rams -6.0 | O/U 44.5

Chicago Bears: 19.25

Quarterback

The Bears are now 3-1 under Nick Foles after he replaced Mitchell Trubisky, who was barely mediocre in the first two wins. Statistically, Foles has not been much better from a fantasy perspective. This Chicago team is now at 5-1 and looking like a contender on the strength of their defense. Well along with a favorable schedule to date.

This is not an easy matchup as the Rams have held their opponents without a passing touchdown in three of their six games and with multiple aerial scores allowed in just two. Josh Allen is the only opposing signal-caller to top 268 passing yards. Foles is not exciting, and while he at least knows to pepper Allen Robinson with targets, he is not much of a threat or an impact.

Alex ‘Awesemo’ Baker’s projected stats (part of  Awesemo+) have Nick Foles projected for just 239.5 yards passing tonight, making the 249.5 UNDER at -125 on OddsShopper a solid deal. Running Back

Then there was one … literally. David Montgomery is the Chicago rushing game, full stop. Tarik Cohen is on the shelf for the rest of the season, and Ryan Nall has one target and no rushing attempts on his 17 snaps. Backup Cordarrelle Patterson is an eight-year veteran who came into the league as a wide receiver/kick returner.

They have the 21st rushing DVOA, but they have not allowed a 100-yard rusher on the season. Since Week 2, Devin Singletary (71 yards) and Raheem Mostert (66 yards) had the most notable performances. This is going to be tough sledding for Montgomery, who is averaging a tick over 50 rushing yards per game. Without Cohen, he has seen 19 targets over the last three games and is adding another 4.7 receptions and 33.0 yards through the air in those appearances.

Patterson will be on the field for about 20-ish% of the snaps, but he will be lucky to see anything more than a handful of opportunities.

Wide Receiver

Every time Robinson is analyzed from a fantasy perspective, we must take a moment of silence in recognition of the lack of functional quarterbacks throughout his career. On the positive, he should be playing for 85-90% of the snaps, and he has averaged a dozen targets over his last four games. Sadly in his six games, he has topped 75 yards just three times and scored twice.

Anthony Miller and Darnell Mooney are the only other receivers to have seen targets in the last two games. They should each be in line for 3-5 in this matchup. Ted Ginn and Javon Wims will be on the field for a combined 20-25% of the time, but they have totaled just 11 targets on the season.

Tight End

Jimmy Graham has managed to find his way back to relevance winning the TE1 job over the seemingly endless other options the Bears had on their roster this off season. He is currently second on the team in targets and has at least five in all but one game. Los Angeles has allowed four touchdowns to this position, but one came last week courtesy of George Kittle, and three went to Buffalo backup tight ends in a weird Week 3 stat line of five catches for 25 yards and three touchdowns on six targets. Cole Kmet snuck in for a score last week, and Demetrius Harris should see a couple targets as the TE2.

Defense/Special Teams

Sean McVay does a good job of putting Jared Goff in a position to succeed, and he has been sacked just seven times this season with only four interceptions.

Los Angeles Rams: 25.25

Quarterback

Since Week 1, the Bears have not allowed more than 253 passing yards, and they have ceded just four touchdowns on the year. The Rams are not focused on the pass this season, and their 51.2%/48.8% pass-to-run ratio is the fourth lowest in the league. While Goff has managed to be efficient with at least 275 passing yards and/or multiple touchdowns in all but one game, the Bears have the second-best passing DVOA and the 11th rushing DVOA, so this is going to be a tough matchup.

Running Back

Though they are allowing nearly a touchdown per game, only Ronald Jones with 106 rushing yards last week and Adrian Peterson with 90 in Week 1 have topped the 80-rushing-yard threshold. Last week coach McVay talked about how he wanted to get rookie Cam Akers more involved, and that led to exactly one snap down from 13 the prior week. It looks like Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown will be basically splitting whatever scraps are not tossed to Akers. The pricing on DraftKings is interesting with Brown at just $3,400 compared to $8,400 for Henderson. On FanDuel, Brown has only a $2,000 discount. Keep in mind that while they split time, the workload ratio is 60-70% Henderson’s.

Wide Receiver

Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods are sharing the opportunities and are at a similar price on both DraftKings and FanDuel. While my preference generally is Woods, Kupp is likely the better option here against a fierce pass coverage, as he will be working out of the slot. We have seen both be dynamic after the catch over the last couple of seasons, so even that is not really a tiebreaking factor.

Josh Reynolds will be on the field for 60-75% of the snaps, depending on how frequently the Rams roll with two tight ends. He has averaged 4.5 targets per game, and they are generally downfield which does give him boom/bust upside.

Tight End

Tyler Higbee is dealing with a hand injury, though he was a limited participant in the Rams final practice of the week. Regardless, he will still be a game-time decision, but we should know at least an hour before kickoff if he is at least active. Gerald Everett has seen four targets each of the last two games despite playing on significantly less snaps. Higbee has had one dominant game, but that was all the way back in Week 2. Health and price point make this an easy decision for me, and I hope Higbee is active and other gamers head that way.

Defense/Special Teams

Though Chicago did not cede a sack to Carolina last week, they suffered multiple in three of the four games prior. The Rams are averaging 3.5 sacks per game though they have just six takeaways on the season.

Monday Night Football Showdown + Single Game NFL DFS Strategy

The rankings below are best utilized for building out single-entry and three-max lineups and also for head-to-head and three-man formats. They provide a nice barometer for player value, but for those of you who are taking the MME approach, remember that correlation with your lineups is key. This means matching a receiver or two if you have a quarterback in the Captain/MVP slot. This also works conversely with pairing a Captain/MVP pass catcher with their signal-caller.

EMac’s Monday Night Football NFL DFS Rankings

NOTABLE INACTIVES: Rams Tyler Higbee

Monday Night Football Top 10 NFL DFS Picks

  1. Allen Robinson: He is the best chance for the Bears to pull off a victory outside of a complete Goff meltdown.
  2. Jared Goff: There is an argument that he could be the top option as it consolidates the Rams production, and on FanDuel he really should be your first choice for the MVP designation.
  3. David Montgomery: Sadly he almost needs two touchdowns to be relevant, but at least he has a monopoly on the Bears backfield.
  4. Cooper Kupp: DraftKings pricing keeps him a touch below Montgomery, but if I had the extra salary cap to make the swap, I would.
  5. Sam Sloman and Cairo Santos: This is more about a potential slogging defensive struggle rather than the savings for once.
  6. Robert Woods: He has at least one rushing attempt in eight of his last 10, with about a 15 rushing yard average and one score.
  7. Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown: Pricing on DraftKings has them on the same line. Move Brown to the top of the Secondary section on FanDuel.
  8. Nick Foles: Still a risk of an in-game benching as he has not been much better than Trubisky.
  9. Darnell Mooney: Discounted price tag and somewhat suppressed popularity, even for a single-game slate.
  10. Los Angeles D/ST: The Bears are not that scary.

Monday Night Football Secondary NFL DFS Picks

  1. Jimmy Graham: We are playing top dollar, but he has been solid in his Chicago debut season.
  2. Anthony Miller: There is an argument for flipping this ranking with Mooney’s above.
  3. Tyler Higbee/Gerald Everett: I much prefer Everett for the health and discount.
  4. Josh Reynolds: He just has to connect on one of his four chances to reward his backers.
  5. Cordarrelle Patterson: Not much volume, but if anything happens to Montgomery, he is all that is left.

Monday Night Football Lottery Tickets NFL DFS Picks

  1. Chicago D/ST: Goff and McVay are not taking many chances this year which curbs the fantasy upside.
  2. Cam Akers: At some point he could kick our teeth in on a single-game contest.
  3. Mitchell Trubisky: It is 2020 and anything is possible.
  4. Van Jefferson, Demetrius Harris, Cole Kmet and Javon Wims: So many things would have to go right.
  5. Ted Ginn Jr and Ryan Nall: Hard pass.
