Saturday, November 7th

Sammy Watkins, WR | Kansas City Chiefs (Hamstring): Watkins will miss his fourth consecutive game in a row now that he has been ruled “out” for week 9. Sammy has been battling a nagging “hamstring” injury for weeks now and can’t seem to get on the right side of this injury. Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson will be the beneficiaries of Sammy’s absence. Mecole Hardman saw a season-high 9 targets last week against the Jets catching 7 of those 9  for 96 yards and a touchdown. It is worth mentioning that last week is the first time this season that the Chiefs have used Hardman over Robinson.

Steven Sims, WR | Washington Football Team (Toe): The Washington Football Team has activated Sims off the team’s injured reserve list on Saturday. Sims has been away from the team since week 4, dealing with a “toe injury.” The timeliness of Steven’s return could not have been better, seeing as Dontrelle Inman is being listed as “doubtful.” Sims can be viewed as a low-end WR4 heading into Sunday.

Kenyan Drake, RB | Arizona Cardinals (Ankle): The Arizona Cardinals will be without running back Kenyan Drake week 9. Drake is dealing with an “ankle” aliment and “will not” play Sunday. This opens the door for Chase Edmunds to control snaps in the Cardinals running game this week. Edmunds should be rostered in season-long leagues where he’s available and is an interesting play across DFS formats as well.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB | Dallas Cowboys (Hamstring): Michael Gehlken reports that the Dallas Cowboys are preparing to be without their star running back, heading into a week 9 match against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Elliott has been dealing with a “hamstring” injury he sustained in week 8. The Cowboys do have a week 9, and it seems that they would like to rest Zeke, so he’s ready for week 10. Tony Pollard will step in during Zeke’s absence. The Cowboys also elevated running back Sewo Olonilua from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Sam Darnold, QB | New York (Shoulder): Sam Darnold will not play in week 9. Joe Flacco will be under center for the Jets on Sunday. This is a big downgrade to all pass catchers for the Jets.

Calvin Ridley, WR | Atlanta Falcons (Foot): Falcons coach Raheem Morris claims  Ridley is “in a good spot” regarding Calvin’s playing status on Sunday. Despite not practicing during the week, Ridley is listed as “questionable” heading into week 9. If Ridley does play, it’s a slight downgrade to Julio Jones. Ridley will carry WR2 with WR1 type upside if he suits up in week 9.

Friday, November  6th

Kenny Golladay, WR | Detroit Lions (Hip): Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Kenny Golladay “will not” be available for week 9. Kenny exited his week 8 match against the Colts during the first half of the game due to a “hip” injury and was later ruled out after halftime. Golladay was ruled “out” pretty early in the week. Marvin Jones and Quintez Cephus will be the primary pass catchers for the Lions on Sunday. (update): Officially ruled “out.” Marvin Hall could see extra snaps

Sam Darnold, QB | New York Jets (Shoulder): Darnold did not participate in the Jets’ practice on Thursday. Head coach Adam Gase goes on record to say that he feels “pretty good” regarding Darnold playing on Monday night. It seems that the is no danger of Darnold missing week 9. It would be a huge downgrade to the Jets passing game and pass-catchers if Joe Flacco were to take snaps under center. I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted on any developments here.

Devonta Freeman, RB | New York Giants (Ankle): Devonta Freeman got in a “limited” practice session on Thursday. The Giants used all three running backs on Monday night in week 8, and the snap counts were all relatively equal. Alfred Morris saw 21 snaps, Dion Lewis saw 21, and Wayne Gallman served as the team’s lead running back, seeing 32 snaps. If Freeman was to return for week 9, the New York running game could become a messy situation. It’s best to view Freeman as boom-or-bust Rb3 in week 9 if cleared to play. (update): Freeman “will not” play in week 9.

Chris Carson, RB | Seattle Seahawks (Foot): A nagging “foot” injury has caused  Chris Carson to miss Thursday’s practice for the Seahawks. Carlos Hyde (hamstring) was also a non-participant at practice on Thursday for the Seahawks, battling a “hamstring” injury. DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer would play prominent roles in the Seattle running game if Hyde and Carson were to be ruled out in week 9. (update): Carson and Hyde will not play week 9. DeeJay Dallas is a must-start in all formats.

Chris Godwin, WR | Tampa Bat Buccaneers (Finger): Head coach Bruce Arians said that Godwin “will play” week 9 when the Tampa Bay Bucs take on the New Orleans Saints. The Bucs will also have newly acquired wide receiver Antonio Brown active for this week 9 debut.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB | Dallas Cowboys (Hamstring): Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore states that Elliot will be a “wait and see” approach regarding Zeke’s week 9 availability. Elliot was a limited participant during the week due to a “hamstring” injury sustained in week 8. The Dallas offense is one to generally stay away from as much as possible at the moment. Season-long fantasy managers may want to be proactive and try to acquire Tony Pollard off the waiver wire if he’s available.

Phillip Lindsay, RB | Denver Broncos (Toe): According to head coach Vic Fangio, Lindsay will probably be listed as “questionable” ahead of Sunday’s game with the Atlanta Falcons but “will” suit up to play. Lindsay’s role in the offense will remain the same; he’s in a timeshare with running back Melvin Gordon, who controls the lions share of work in the Denver running game. Lindsay was able to make the most of his opportunity in week 8. Phillip only touched the ball 6 times on Sunday but racked up 83 yards and a touchdown. Lindsay will be an Rb3-4/Flex Sunday.

Tim Patrick, WR | Denver Broncos (Hamstring): The Denver Broncos list Tim Patrick as “questionable” heading into a week 9 match against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Vic Fangio told reports on Friday afternoon that Patrick “will play” on Sunday. The Atlanta Falcons pass defense allows the 7th most receptions to receivers on the other side of the ball. Patrick can be viewed as a WR3 with upside for week 9.

T.Y. Hilton, WR | Indianapolis Colts (Groin): Hilton “will not” play in week 9. look below to see my thoughts on Hilton.

Mark Ingram, RB | Baltimore Ravens (Ankle): Ingram “will not” play in week 9. J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards will fill in and split the workload in Ingram’s absence. This situation is also one you can read up on below.

Matt Breida, RB | Miami Dolphins (Hamstring): Matt Breida has been ruled “out” for week 9. Jordan Howard is expected to get the start here. Patrick Laird is available but is dealing with an “ankle” injury.

Thursday, November 5th

Jordan Reed, TE | San Francisco 49ers (Knee): Jordan Reed is returning to the 49ers active roster after a long duration on the team’s injured reserve list. With Reed expected to start on Thursday evening, this makes Ross Dwelley less appealing in season-long leagues and a long shot punt play in terms of DFS this evening. In the two games that Kittle was absent, Reed saw 14 targets. If Reed can stay healthy while Kittle is away, he becomes an excellent streaming option.

Matt Breida, RB | Miami Dolphins (Hamstring): Matt Breida was a non-participant at Dolphins practice today due to suffering from “hamstring” soreness. The Dolphins did place Myles Gaskins on the team’s injured reserve list Tuesday, and he will miss the next three weeks. The news would have set Brieda up beautifully to lead a three-headed monster in the Miami Dolphins backfield. Unfortunately, those plans and visions seem like an afterthought now. Jordan Howard, Patrick Laird, and Salvon Ahmed will play roles in the Miami running game, assuming Breida is inactive Sunday.

Allen Lazard, WR | Green bay Packers (Abdomen): Allen Lazard traveled with the team to San Francisco but “will not” play Thursday evening. Marquez Valdez Scantling will fill in for Lazard until he’s available to play.

Aaron Jones, RB | Green Bay Packers (Calf): The Packers seem very optimistic that Jones will play on Thursday night. Aaron has missed the last two contests due to a “mild calf strain.” Greenbay will be without running backs Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon due to COVID related reasons.  Jones is expected to play this evening, barring any pre-game setbacks. Dexter Williams will serve as a backup to Jones on Thursday night when the Packers face the 49ers. (update): Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Packers are expected to be “careful” with his usage. This could mean more work for Dexter Williams.

Michael Thomas, WR | New Orleans Saints (Ankle, Hamstring): Look, I get it. You drafted Thomas in the first round and haven’t been able to use him since week one. I can sympathize with you. Well, the wait may be over. Thomas was limited at practice for the Saints on Wednesday and Thursday. Reading the tea leaves here, it looks like Thomas is in line to play in week 9. Thomas immediately becomes a WR1 once cleared to play and cuts into  Alvin Kamara‘s target volume.

John Brown, WR | Buffalo Bills (Knee): Brown was a full participant at the Bills practice on Thursday. Brown has had a terrible history of leg injuries in the past. Brown will be a low-end WR3 in week 9 when the Buffalo Bills face The Seattle Seahawks.

Jonathan Taylor, RB | Indianapolis Colts (Ankle): Jonathan Taylor is trending in the right direction regarding playing this week. Taylor got in a limited session at practice for the Colts on Wednesday and was a full participant Thursday. The Colts backfield is rather messy. Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins (who has the hot hand at the moment) are both healthy and have been producing well as of late. It’s hard to see Taylor as anything other than an RB3 in week 9 when the Colts face the Baltimore Ravens.

T.Y. Hilton, WR | Indianapolis (Groin): Hilton did not participate with the Colts at Thursday’s practice. This makes back to back days that Hilton didn’t participate. It’s beginning to look like Hilton may miss week 9. Zach Pascal and Michael Pittman will continue to play primary roles via the Colts passing game in week 9 if Hilton sits.

Wednesday, November 4th

Christian McCaffrey, RB | Carolina Panthers (Ankle): Head coach Matt Rhule went on record to say McCaffrey looked “sharp” at Panthers practice on Wednesday. CMC still has not been activated off the injured reserve list yet but looks on track to play Sunday when the Panthers face the Chiefs. Mike Davis can now be dropped in 10-12 team season-long leagues, ore you can stash Davis in case CMC reaggravates his injury further. CMC has missed the last 7 games due to an “ankle” sprain sustained during week 2. Heading into week 9, McCaffrey will carry RB1 status when cleared to play.

Matthew Stafford, QB | Detroit Lions (Rona): The Lions placed Matthew Stafford on the team’s injured reserve/COVID-19 list this afternoon. Stafford came in contact with a person exposed to close contact of covid, but the person in question was not a part of the Lions organization. For Stafford to play, Sunday, he needs to test negative for covid two consecutive days meaning Stafford has a chance. Chase Daniel will take snaps under center if Stafford doesn’t play.

Kendrick Bourne, WR | San Francisco (Rona): Kendrick Bourne tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and “will not” play Thursday night. The 49ers have also ruled Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel “out” due to being in close contact with Bourne and placed on the team’s injured reserve/COVID-19 list. It is worth noting; the Green Bay Packers are also dealing with a list of players who have also been placed on their injury reserve/COVID-19 list. The Thursday night game will play as scheduled. However, there have been rumblings that this game could be moved. Be sure to check back in later for updates.

Aaron Jones, RB | Green Bay Packers (Calf): OC Nathaniel Hackett says Jones is a “game-time-decision.” However, the Packers list Jones as “questionable” heading into their Thursday matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon “will not” play Thursday due to being placed on the Packers injured reserve/COVID-19 list. As it stands, Dexter Williams looks to backup Jones on Thursday night. If Jones is unable to play, Williams will take on a much more prominent role alongside Tyler Ervin in week 9.

Mark Ingram, RB | Baltimore Ravens (Ankle): Ingram was a non-participant at Ravens practice on Wednesday, dealing with a “knee injury sustained in week 6. Mark was rested through his week 7 bye and missed week 8, yet still isn’t quite ready to take the field yet it looks like. J.K. Dobbins has had a phenomenal game in week 8 in Ingram’s absence. Dobbins saw 66% of the snaps in week 8 and carried the ball 15 times for 113 yards. Gus Edwards ran 16 times for 87 yards and a touchdown. Edwards and Dobbins will be heavily relied upon again if Ingram isn’t able to play in week 9.

Kenyan Drake, RB | Arizona Cardinals (Ankle): Drake missed practice for the Cardinals Wednesday and Thursday due to an “ankle”  injury sustained in week 7. Arizona returns from a week 8 bye and looks to lean on Chase Edmunds if Drake cannot play. There is no reason why Edmunds should not have a stellar day facing a sub-par Miami Dolphins defense. Edmunds carries RB1 appeal into this Sunday’s match against the Miami Dolphins.

Calvin Ridley, Wr | Atlanta Falcons (Foot): The Falcons training staff seem optimistic that Ridley won’t miss much playing time. Xrays came back on Ridley’s “foot” and were “negative,” which is good news for the Falcons. Julio Jones looks to see a monster uptick in targets with Ridley being off the field. In the last three games that Ridley has missed, Julio has seen 48 targets. Jones is one of my favorite plays in week 9 and good to go in all formats this week.

Tuesday, November 3rd

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB | San Francisco 49ers (Ankle): ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Garoppolo is expected to miss an extended period and is sidelined indefinitely. Garoppolo was pulled from his week 8 contest against the Seahawks. Before leaving, Garoppolo completed 11 of 16 passes for a dismal 84 yards and one interception. This makes two times in the last four contests that Garoppolo has been unable to finish. He was seen limping to the sideline, which indicates that he’s still dealing with his ankle issue he sustained in week 2. Nick Mullens will take over as the starting quarterback for the 49ers while Garoppolo heals.

George Kittle, TE | San Francisco (Foot): Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Kittle will miss eight weeks due to a broken foot suffered during week 8. Just like  Garoppolo, Kittle had himself a quiet day against the Seahawks. Kittle ended his Sunday catching two of four targets for 39 yards. With Kittle expected to miss the next eight weeks, the 49ers will have to rely on Ross Dwelley and Jordan Reed, returning from the injured reserve list soon. The injuries are piling up for the 49ers, who are still missing Raheem Mostert and Deebo Samuel. Dwelley and Reed will likely split snaps at the tight end position with Kittle due to IR’s land.

Gardner Minshew, QB | Jacksonville Jaguars (Thumb): Minshew is dealing with a couple of issues regarding his hand. It appears that Minshew is not only dealing with a strained ligament in his right thumb; he is also dealing with multiple fractures in his right hand. John Shipley of Sports Illustrated reports Jake Luton will take over the reins for the Jags.

Tevin Coleman, RB | San Francisco 49ers (Knee): The 49ers got Coleman back from the injured reserve list for week 8. Coleman exited the game during week 8 late in the first quarter due to knee complications. The 49ers have already ruled Coleman out for week 9. Coach Kyle Shanahan states that Coleman will miss a couple of weeks but will avoid landing on the injured reserve list. Jerick McKinnon and Jamycal Hasty will continue to carry the workload via the 49ers running game. Hasty has looked like the more explosive back over the last few weeks. Both McKinnon and Hasty hold low-end RB2/Flex appeal this weekend when the 49ers face the Green Bay Packers.

Deebo Samuel, WR | San Francisco (Hamstring): The 49ers have ruled Samuel “out” for week 9. Samuel will sit due to a hamstring injury he sustained during week 7. Deebo’s hamstring issue was expected to have Samuel miss at least two weeks from the original injury date, which meant missing weeks 8 and 9. The 49ers do have a week 10 bye that could be used to ensure Samuel is healthy enough to play in week 11 when the 49ers face the New Orleans Saints. Rookie receiver Brandon Aiyuk and Kendrick Bourne step into new roles now with Samuel out and Kittle on IR. Season-long managers should hold Samuel if you have to roster space. Aiyuk and Bourne will be the 49ers’ primary pass catchers on Thursday when they face the Green Bay Packers in week 9.

Jordan Reed, San Francisco 49ers (Knee): Reed returned to practice for the 49ers on Tuesday. The 49ers couldn’t have asked for better timing seeing that they just lost Kittle for 6-8 weeks. Reeds would slot in as a low-end TE1 Thursday if given the clearance to play.

Myles Gaskin, RB | Miami Dolphins (Knee): Gaskin “will miss” the next three weeks with a knee injury, sending Gaskin to the injured reserve list. The Dolphins acquired DeAndre Washington today from the Kansas City Chiefs before the trade deadline. The move makes a lot of sense, with Gaskin moving to the injured reserve. However, the signing of Washington muddies the Miami backfield drastically. Jordan Howard, Matt Breida, and Patrick Laird are the three healthy running backs for the Dolphins. If you’re in a jam via season-long leagues, take a shot on Breida. The Dolphins face the Cardinals in week 9.

Andy Dalton, QB | Dallas Cowboys (Rona): The Dallas Cowboys placed Dalton on the team’s injured reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday. Dalton “will not” play in week 9 when the Cowboys face the Steelers.

Last week the Cowboys handed Ben DiNucci the start. The Cowboys quarterback managed to complete 21 of 40 passes for 140 yards while fumbling twice. As it stands, the Cowboys have not named a starter for week 9. However, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Dallas benched DiNucci after his subpar performance against the Eagles. It will be either Cooper Rush or Garrett Gilbert under center for the Cowboys on Sunday. I honestly can’t suggest anyone from this offense at the moment. If you have to use a Cowboys skill player, I would have to steer you towards Ezekiel Elliott reluctantly.
