With a full week in the books, the NFL injury report already featured a number of notable names heading into Week 3. Using practice reports as a guide, here is the latest injury intel in the NFL ahead of Week 3.
NFL Injury Report: Week 3 Edition
Zack Moss – Buffalo Bills
Ruled out for Week 3 with a toe injury, Zack Moss’s absence leaves Devin Singletary to handle a vast majority of Buffalo’s backfield work. Moss averaged 10 opportunities (carries + targets) to Singletary’s 13 through two games. Moss also dominated red zone work, opening valuable touches for Singletary this week. The Bills remain 1.5-point favorites over the Los Angeles Rams
Julio Jones – Atlanta Falcons
Hobbled by a hamstring injury last week, Julio Jones periodically left the field to undergo sideline work. This week, Jones failed to practice a single time, earning the game-time decision tag. Truly questionable in Week 3, Jones may act as a decoy if healthy. At the worst, Jones remains active on an emergency basis only. With little information to work with, avoiding Jones looks like the sharp approach in Week 2.
Davante Adams – Green Bay Packers
While off the DFS main slate, Davante Adams’ injury remains a huge issue in fantasy football. Adams’ injury appears worse than initially reported. Coach Matt LaFleur called Adams doubtful earlier this week. Without Adams, the Packers will increasingly lean on Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard in Week 3.
Christian Kirk – Arizona Cardinals
A surprise inactive, Christian Kirk popped up on Arizona’s injury report mid-week. Already ruled out for Sunday’s game, Kirk’s absence potentially opens the door for sophomore wide out Andy Isabella. A darling of the NFL Draft community, Isabella actually owns the fourth-most routes run among wide receivers on this depth chart. A true down-field threat, Isabella warrants consideration as a dart throw in Week 3.
Jeff Wilson & Jerick McKinnon – San Francisco 49ers
Straight out of the injury apocalypse, both Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert suffered serious injuries in Week 2. With both already ruled out for Week 3, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson project to handle a majority of San Francisco’s carries. McKinnon played his first snaps after a two-year layoff earlier this year and seems unlikely to handle a full workload in Week 3. Meanwhile, Wilson temporarily filled in at times last years, playing an important role on the goal-line. Expect both backs to handle their fair share of carries in Week 3.
AJ Brown – Tennessee Titans
After missing Week 2, the Titans subsequently ruled out AJ Brown for Week 3 as well. Stepping up in his place Corey Davis received five targets as the team’s primary pass catcher. However, this remains a low-volume situation, with the Titans favored to defeat the Vikings. This week has the looks of a Derrick Henry smash spot.
George Kittle – San Francisco 49ers
In addition to Mostert and Coleman, the 49ers also lost George Kittle and Jimmy Garoppolo. Kittle in particular remains a significant blow to the 49ers pass attack. With Nick Mullens at the helm, San Francisco will rely increasingly on Jordan Reed to handle the tight end duties. While productive last week, Reed only played a gadget role in the offense. With this game projected for 41.5-points, other exploitable options keep this game in dart throw territory.
Cam Akers – Los Angeles Rams
The nominal starter in the Rams’ first two games, Cam Akers landed a rib injury in Week 2. Already ruled out for the game, the Rams will lean on Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown. With Brown landing an injury of his own in Week 2, Henderson broke out for 81 yards and a score on just 12 rushing attempts. With Brown playing mediocre football through two weeks, perhaps Henderson has done enough to distance himself from the pack. This backfield remains a fluid situation.
Henry Ruggs – Las Vegas
Clearly bothered by injury in Week 2, Henry Ruggs ultimately couldn’t get the green light ahead of Week 3. With another week to recover, Ruggs could return to action in Week 4. However, in his place, the Raiders look woefully thin at pass catcher. Outside of a questionable Darren Waller and Josh Jacobs, Derek Carr will rely on rookie Bryan Edwards and slot receiver Hunter Renfrow against New England in Week 3.
