NFL Week 7 NFL Survivor Pool Picks + Strategy | Bills or Chargers?

We are moving along in the NFL season, and next up is a Week 7 slate. As always, we need to keep an eye on the COVID situation, as games could be moved or taken off the slate, but so far everything is on schedule. We have 14 games on the schedule with four teams off due to their bye weeks. Last week saw another popular choice go down in NFL survivor pools, so your league should look a little less crowded this week. Lets get into some NFL survivor picks for Week 7.

What is an NFL Survivor Pool?

There are several variations of the Survivor Pool format, but the most basic and common one is each week everyone in the league has to select one team to win a game straight up, not against the spread. If the team wins, you survive the week and move on, and if the team you pick ties or loses, you are eliminated from the pool. The twist is that you can only use any team once, so anyone you pick is no longer available for weeks in the future, making it increasingly difficult as the season goes on. The pool ends when there is one player left, and usually that player will take home a big pay day depending on the settings and the structure.

Week 6 NFL Survivor Picks Recap

Dolphins

A massive 54% of people took the Dolphins last week, which wasn’t a surprise given their opponent was the Jets. I took the free square as well, and the Dolphins showed why everyone wanted to use them here. They crushed the Jets 24-0, and there was nothing but smooth sailing if you went with the obvious choice. Every week the Jets are on the schedule their opponent will be popular, and it is hard to argue with that strategy right now.

Patriots

This was the logical choice if you didn’t go to the Dolphins, and 21% of teams decided to do that. Unfortunately for them, they found a landmine, and the Patriots looked awful in their 6-point loss at home to a bad Denver team. The offense struggled throughout, and the pivot away from Miami cost you dearly if you tried to change it up. Fortunately, if you didn’t go here, they will get the Jets twice this season, so some good spots will be available.

Colts

The Colts were only 5% across Yahoo leagues as most people focused on the two big AFC East situations. If you didn’t get burned by Indianapolis in Week 1, then they probably paid off for you, as they were able to defeat the Bengals at home and get you through to Week 7. It is hard to be overly sold on a team that lost to the Jaguars, but they still are going to have some spots worth considering given some of the easy opponents on the schedule.

Week 7 NFL Survivor Picks

Bills

What a surprise that the Jets’ opponent could be north of 50% once again. The Bills hit the road here, but it’s not going to matter where they play this games as long as the Jets are the opponent. Coming off a tough loss against Kansas City, we should expect a solid effort from Buffalo, and there is no better get right spot then facing Adam Gase’s dumpster fire. The Jets have been outscored by 110 points in six games, which is basically double any other team.

Chargers

Even though the Jets are the golden matchup, the Jaguars have to be in the conversation each week. They have lost five straight and look to be on the short list for worst teams in the league. The Chargers are just 1-4 on the season as well, but they have shown they can compete against quality teams, and Justin Herbert has a bright future.

In addition, it’s a huge win in survivor anytime you can move on while crossing off a not-great team from your list, which this spot does. You aren’t going to miss the Chargers late in the season, and you avoid burning any top-end teams in Week 7. Right now Los Angeles is a 7.5-point favorite at home. If you don’t want to fade the Jets again, you should look here.

Saints

The Saints certainly have looked shaky at times to start the season, and the 3-2 record shows they are yet to be firing on all cylinders. They have a key game at home against the Panthers this week, and Vegas likes their chances as 7.5-point favorites. The talent is there, and they are coming off a bye, so there are no excuses as to why they wouldn’t be ready in this spot. Carolina is 3-3 on the season, but they still struggle on defense, and the Saints should be able to get the job done at home. I personally don’t see a ton of appeal in going here, but since they will not be popular, it’s a spot to differentiate if you want to take a risk.

My Week 7 NFL Survivor Pick: Chargers

Teams I’ve already used: Colts (L) , Bucs (W) , Eagles (T), Rams (W), Cowboys (W), Dolphins (W)

Last week we talked about the balance between picking the obvious choice while still keeping an eye on the long-term vision. Choosing the Dolphins easily got us through, and it actually saved what could have been a loss with the Patriots going down. Sometimes it works the opposite way, and taking the obvious choice every week isn’t going to get the job done. This week I am passing on Buffalo despite the Jets matchup and will get rid of a Chargers team that isn’t very good.
