We will focus on three players — one quarterback, one running back and one wide receiver — to be NFL DFS picks for Week 6’s NFL Yahoo Cup contest.
NFL Yahoo Cup Fantasy Football Picks | Round 6
NFL DFS Quarterback: Lamar Jackson — $33
Jackson is the lone quarterback with a grade of “A” in both value and raw scoring in Awesemo’s rankings this week. It is a near-perfect situation for Jackson and the Ravens. They are implied for 27 points — tied for fourth best on the slate. The Chargers play at the fifth-fastest situation-neutral pace in the league, so overall volume will be high. Finally, the Chargers should put up points themselves, forcing the Ravens to attack through the air.
Speaking of Jackson as a thrower, his pass attempts have increased in each game this season. He has impressed when forced to throw, and his 9.1 yards per attempt is the best of his career. He also still brings his dominant rushing ability to the table, leading all quarterback in rushing with 341 yards through five games. Jackson would be a great play on Yahoo in Week 6 based solely on his arm alone. When factoring in another 6 fantasy points from his legs, he is the best quarterback available.
NFL DFS Running Back: Darrel Williams — $17
There are no running backs with A grades in both value and points this week. Most of the real value in this slate lies on the lower end, with a slew of backups thrust into starting roles. With the spend up at quarterback, finding a cheaper running back will be necessary to open up some salary. The best of the bunch is Kansas City’s Darrel Williams, who was already getting some work for the Chiefs with starter Clyde Edwards-Helaire healthy. Williams was in on at least 34% of the snaps in the two weeks preceding Edwards-Helaire’s injury. Now, with Edwards-Helaire out of the picture, Williams is the lead back for the team implied for the highest point total on the slate.
Williams is also a talented receiver. With Edwards-Helaire out and the Chiefs trailing, Williams drew five targets on only 37 snaps. Jerick McKinnon will mix in for Kansas City as well — so do not expect Williams to see all of the backfield work — but it still sets up well for him to have a solid role. That role could pay off in this matchup against a struggling Washington defense that ranks 28th in the league by DVOA.
Khalil Herbert ($14) is in play as well, assuming Damien Williams does not clear the COVID protocols. That said, Darrel Williams still has the higher ceiling. The overall offensive environment is better, and Darrel Williams’ passing work gives him a higher ceiling.
NFL DFS Wide Receiver: CeeDee Lamb — $19
Lamb is the sole wide receiver to get the coveted double-A grade on Yahoo this week. This is largely thanks to his salary — he is $3 cheaper than Amari Cooper ($22) on Yahoo but is the more expensive of the two elsewhere in the industry.
Lamb and Cooper are essentially even in terms of production this season. Cooper’s scoring has been slightly higher, but that is thanks to two more touchdowns than Lamb. With those being hard to predict, gamers should not read too much into that. It is a solid game environment for Dallas’ offense this week, and they are implied for 27 points.
In those situations production largely comes from their top wide receivers. Lamb and Cooper combine for over 60% of the Cowboys’ air yards — nobody else on the team has a downfield role. Lamb also adds an after-catch element, as he has almost three times as many yards after the catch as Cooper, on one fewer catch.
It is always wise to bet on the talented receiver pair for the Cowboys, especially when Vegas thinks there will be a lot of offensive production. For Yahoo DFS, Lamb is the better pick in Week 6; the discount from Cooper is too good to ignore.
