Odds are, if you’re using Sam Darnold in your fantasy football lineup, you’re in a very deep league or a two QB/SuperFlex league. So the pickings are going to be slim. You’ll remember Darnold’s backup, Trevor Siemian from a two-year stint with the Denver Broncos – his best season culminating in a 3,400 yard, 18 TD performance. He’s also coming back from a 2017 shoulder injury and didn’t play an NFL snap last season. Not exactly exciting. The Jets implied total sits at a lowly 21.5 and that number is only going to drop. If you’re perusing the waiver wire for a spot starter, Awesemo’s highest projected quarterbacks in that range are Derek Carr and Case Keenum.

Of course this also means downgrading Jets skill position players too. Siemian can throw a decent deep ball, but he lacks elite arm strength. It’s likely that we won’t be seeing any Robby Anderson, getting behind the defence 80-yard screens. If Anderson is starting for you in your season-long lineups, find yourself a replacement. The risks are high week-to-week with Anderson, but now he has a downgrade at QB to go along with a nagging calf injury.
Not sure I’d downgrade Jamison Crowder too much. He led the league in targets in Week 1 and predominantly works out of the slot – which should give Siemian a nice safety blanket.
Showdown pricing for the Monday Nighter isn’t out yet, so we’ll have to wait and see where Siemian and the rest of the NY Jets end up.
